“Welcoming, comfortable and pet-friendly!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Hostal 1127. The hostal is unmarked (just the street number) and the street it's on may seem a little sketchy at first, but you're in the right place! They immediately made all of us feel welcome and at home, including our dog. Seriously the most kind and genuine hosts we've had thus far in South America! The rooms are clean and comfortable, with hot water, WiFi, and televisions. As other reviewers note, breakfast is included, and the family is super helpful with recommendations on where to eat in the neighborhood. Be aware that on Sundays, the majority of restaurants and businesses are closed, but they can point you in the right direction to find a place to eat. There is one parking space inside the property, and they invited us to park inside on the second night of our stay when the space opened up. But street parking was easy to find.

Room Tip: Rooms that don't face the street are quieter.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012 via mobile

We spent three nights at Hostal 1127 and were received warmly by Gonzalo. This family-run hostal caters to locals and foreigners alike and is centrally located walking distance to the downtown, markets, restaurants and shore avenue. The hostal is quiet and tranquil, though the usual street noise can carry through if you're in a room on the front. The neighborhood is pretty quiet for such a central location.

Our hosts were very helpful with maps, car rental advice and tips on getting around. My husband and I are both fluent in Spanish, but Gonzalo speaks English with guests from all over. We had a double bed with private bath on the second floor. If you travel to Antofagasta you will know that water pressure in the dessert is not great - for obvious reasons. But we were comfortable and content with our showers and overall room. Plenty of storage, great cleaning on a daily basis and bright, airy windows.

Breakfast is served each morning and is the typical Chilean fare, but Gonzalo and his father warm the bread, cheese and ham, which is served with juice and tea/coffee. We were welcome to use the kitchen and provided utensils and dishes for our own cooking. We were made to feel very much at home. ¡Muchísimas gracias Gonzalo y familia!

We stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed our time here. Gonzalo is very friendly and went out of his way to help us with our further travel plans in Chile. The room was extremely clean and very comfortable. Good internet connection and a huge TV in the room were both bonuses. I would definitely recommend staying here if travelling to Antofagasta.

Laura & David,
Much much apreciated for your Review. You were also such a lovely couple! :D
It was no badder at all to walk you to the bus agency... It was rather nice. And like I told you, I needed it to go there anyway.

Hope your stay in Taltal was nice and quiet... and also the rest of your trip.

Didnt actually stay here as when we arrived hostal was fully booked, but the owner was very helpful in calling other hotels in the area to see if any had vacancy and allowing us to store our luggage while we walked around.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

We were only staying in Antofagasta one night, as a stop over between San Pedro and Chanaral. The booking side of things was excellent, with very quick responses and apologies given for not initially emailing in English (although we weren't expecting English emails at any point).

We took a taxi from the bus terminal to the Hostal for 5000 pesos, and are mighty glad we did, given the distance and the safety warnings about the industrial estate the bus terminal is situated in.

The taxi took us to the front door and as other reviewers have mentioned, only the door number gives the Hostal away.

We were swiftly shown to our room, even though we were a little early.

The room was clean but we felt tired, with plugs coming away from the walls (you could see daylight!) and bare lightbulbs on the ceiling. The mattress also smelt heavily of cigarette smoke, which as non-smokers wasn't pleasant. The shower was never hot and dribbled rather than showered. There is a desk and chair and the windows are all barred so you're fine leaving them open at night.

However, we felt secure there and the gentleman who looked after us was very helpful, recommending restaurants and also early on informing of us of where not to go in the evening (basically the whole of downtown, which the Hostal isn't in).

The coast is within easy walking distance and we highly rate the San Pedro restaurant, which is also 5 minutes down the road - had a superb meal there.

Breakfast consisted of a small ham and cheese toasted sandwich, a glass of juice, a biscuit and coffee/tea. Whilst we know the Chilean's don't do breakfast particularly, we were nowhere near full at the end of this. We were surprised that Antofagasta was so much more expensive than Santiago, but the shape of the country dictates this, as well as the localised inflation caused by the mining industry. However, even given this, breakfast for 30,000 pesos a night, seemed somewhat stingy.

Our host booked a taxi for us on the way back and confirmed the price for us. There was also wifi internet access but no kitchen facilities.

Dear 3Dolly3,
We are sorry that your experience in our Hostal wasn't as good as it has been for almost every one else.
We would have liked if you would have told us about the things you didn't like. For example, if you find cigarrete smell on your bed and you would had let us know, we could had change you to another room.
Same thing with breakfast... we always ask to our guests if"it's everything ok?", and if any passenger wants more milk, juice, another sandwich or something else, he just have to say it.

As to the shower, it's common to have water presure problems in the summer at certain hours of the day, but that it's more like a city issue. Another recurrent explanation for the fact of don't get hot water, its a misuse of the shower command.

Bottom line is, that we are always more than willing to resolve any problem of our guests and been as useful as we can, but for that, we need our guest to tell us about any problem that they may have.

Our best regards for you, and hope the rest of your trip has been great.
Gonzalo Letelier.
