“It's got a good thing going on...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013 via mobile

This little bundle of tranquility, nestled down a nondescript side road is surely one of the highlights of any Cambodian experience. High praise for the Golden Mango Inn ... Most of which is reserved for the genuinely loveable staff, who would be able to get that 'grumpy cat' to flash it's pearly whites.

Details that would appear to nock the place down a peg are cleverly navigated by the thoughtful owners who - unlike many places in the region - put the comfort of their guests at the top of their agenda. ie. the location isn't very central but free 'into-town tuk tuk services' alleviate some of the hassle.

One morning a pre-arranged driver failed to show for a 5am sunrise tour of Angkor Wat - staff, concerned by our frustration, organised an replacement. He arrived - still with sleep in his eyes - within 10 minutes and accepted the discounted rate agreed with the previous no-show driver.

Positives: staff staff staff. The rooms are well maintained (if a little lacklustre) and very big. Swimming pool is cute and the feature adds character. Atmosphere is relaxed. Free rides into town. Tours / guides from here are reliable and good value. Decent wifi.

Negatives: little far from town. Breakfast (and food generally) isn't top-notch, but still acceptable. Construction work was being carried out next door so was some noise - but nothing overpowering. Not the cheapest option and not a choice for people looking to socialise within the hotel.

All in all, what are you waiting for?

Awesome, yummy breakfast. Nice fresh smoothies. The staff was amazing. We told them we were going to sunrise at Angkor Wat. They made us breakfast and had it ready for us at 4:45am! You can't beat that. Always someone around to help you out. Free tuk tuk rides into town and only $2 tuk tuk back. Loved the pool area and the garden. Would totally stay here again! They could probably update the rooms, but it didn't bug me.

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor. Was nice and quiet.

We stayed at the Golden Mango for four nights and loved it.

At first we weren't sure about the price (we're backpacking) or the location but neither were an issue.

You get a good sized breakfast including juice and coffee/tea, plus Tuk Tuks for free into town until 9pm. You can also hire a bicycle free of charge. The location therefore is really not an issue and when you consider the free elements you are getting good value over all.

Due to the hotel being busy we stayed in 3 different rooms (our own fault for not booking enough nights initially). Each of the three were very clean and comfortable. The hotel as a whole was very clean also.

The staff were excellent. Very attentive, helpful and friendly. They can help arrange massages (excellent), tours and onward travel etc.

We did a day trip to Angkor Wat and some other temples by tuk tuk booked through the hotel. We went for sunrise and they sent us off with a takeaway breakfast which was lovely.

Our driver was Seeyou (how it's pronounced not spelt). He was wonderful. Very smiley, relaxed and friendly. Not at all pushy and it just felt like he would go out of his way to make sure you enjoyed your day. Ask for him!

I would love to stay here again.

The Golden Mango Inn in Siam Reap is a great hotel, the staff is extremely (!!!) friendly and helpful. The pool is well maintained, the hotel is nicely designed. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are basic. Unfortunately, we had a small mosquito problem in our first room, but it was no problem to change our room and everything got solved in a very polite way. The restaurant is very good at little prices. Definitely a place I would recommend!

We recently stayed at the Golden Mango Inn for 3 nights. I have to say, it was fantastic (especially for the price).

The rooms were large and clean. The food at the hotel was good, and very reasonably priced. The pool was beautiful, the only con was it didn't quite catch enough sun for me. The best bit was definitely the staff. They were some of the most friendly staff I have ever come across, and they made a real effort to help you enjoy yourself as much as possible.

The tuk tuk driver who picked us up from the airport ended up driving us around for most of the time. He was very friendly, and definitely helped further improve our already amazing experience.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. It is good value for what it is. The only thing is again, there is construction going on. Whilst it didn't really bother me, that may have been because we had a room near the front of the hotel.

The only people I would not recommend this hotel to would be those who are travelling alone. It is more a place for couples/friends, not really where you can meet a lot of people.
Thank you Golden Mango Inn!

Room Tip: Get a room at the front away from the construction!

I’ve been meaning to write a review of this place for a while. I’ve been travelling around Asia for 8 months and this is one of my favourite places. Staff are the nicest and most accommodating people – they will make such an effort to make your stay as pleasing as possible. We ended up extending our stay to 3 weeks!

Our standard double room was clean and spacious and our bathroom actually had a bath which was a plus.

There is a lovely swimming pool that they add fresh folded flowers to every day – you see the girls making them every morning in the lobby. The gardens are also a lovely place to relax.

You have a choice of items for breakfast and free tea or coffee 24/7.

Although the place is outside of town, there is a garage selling a few bits and pieces a the end of the road and reception will provide you with a free one-way tuk tuk to take you into the centre. A ride back usually costs $2 and no more than $3.

Wifi is good which was handy for me as I was working.

Only downsides are :

There was a lot of building work going on around the pool (hotels next door) so wasn’t the most relaxing place. As most people will choose GMI on the basis of it having a pool, I think it should ideally be mentioned on the website so people know before they book.

Please replace the breakfast juice! Also, some of the meals were nice but others were a bit hit and miss and and I think the menu could do with a bit of a revamp.

I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could because of the above, but overall it gets a 5! Thank you guys – we’d definitiely stay again if we come back to SR!

The staff made the stay special. They also booked me a tuk tuk driver, Ton, who was just as friendly, I can highly recommend him. Rooms are quite basic, but functional. Bath mat and curtains would require changing though and my room was not cleaned once during the three night stay - maybe because I went to the temples early and would already be back by noon. Food at the restaurant is good. All and all, I felt good about staying in a locally owned place, knowing that my money stays in Cambodia.
