The Somadevi could be perfect (viz a viz it's price) if not not one 1 nagging issue...inconsistent hot/cold water pressure. Other than this, it was an ideal place for any visitors savouring the various attraction at the Angkor Wat. My family stayed for 3 nights and was well rested and enjoyed their stay. The breakfast spread were good enough (we were small eaters), housekeeping service was prompt and efficient, our complaint were attended to fast (we had a cable TV disruption that lasted 2mins ? ) during which the housekeeper responded within 1min to rectify the self-corrected issue. The room (deluxe) while not too spacious was adequate with a balcony facing the swimming pool. However, you will not enjoy the balcony once the aircon is switched on as the compressor is attached to it's ceiling wall. But we don't use the balcony much so it's not an issue.
The beds were comfy and aircon worked well. The bath towels were somewhat old but it's clean so, we are ok with that too. Also, the hotel staff, from the bell-hop, front office to hosuekeeping were polite and always smiling. Certainly helps to endear the hotel to the guests :).
Location was convenient - just 250m to the hive of activties area : Pub Street. We walked (5min) the 1st night to experience the environment and quickly discover that the cheap 2 min tuk-tuk ride (USD1/each way) was a better alternative. The tuk-tuk riders stationed themselves just at the hotel entrance. The riders alway quote USD2 each way but just tell them "Sorry, USD1' and walk on...invariably, they will agree to USD1 as it's the market rate. However, the better seats tuk-tuks may command USD2. Also, when it's raining, the norm is USD2/each way.
The travelling time from the hotel to the Angkor Wat are averagely 15-20min, so your guide usually factor in a lunch break/rest at the hotel before exploring the further locationed venues. The Sunset Rise Angkor Wat session (a popular must-have itinerary)- guide typically pick u up at 5am, watch the spectacular sunrise at 630am+/- and you will be back at the hotel for breakfast...isn't that great ?
So, check out this hotel. You will be well-taken care of (just the hot/cold water issue...) No regrets ^__^ .
Level 4 is the highest...swimming pool view or city view? each have it's pluses & minuses.
