“Bou Savy Service Level a Bane to Country of Ancient Relic, Not So "Savy" Afterall”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2009

Pre Trip
1) Excellent service and prompt reply to queries regarding the booking of rooms

Actual Trip
1) Upon arrival at 830am at Bou Savy ("Bou"), was informed that check-in available at 930am as previous guests had not checked out.

2) My friends and I decided to start on a one day tour instead of waiting for check-in. Hired driver from Bou. Bou offered to check in our luggage first.

3) Returned to Bou evening time and was told that no rooms available and check-in to Bou is not possible as the previous guests had not checked out and were uncontactable

4) Bou relocated us to a nearby affiliated guesthouse for that night as an interim solution and we were expected to check-in to Bou the following day after the errant guests checked out.

5) We requested Bou to make arrangement to stay in the affiliated guesthouse for the whole trip as it did not make sense for us to move around just because Bou failed to check us in. Bou acceded to our request and acknowledged that it was their mistake that we could not check in. However, Bou proposed that we had our complimentary breakfast at Bou instead of the affiliated guesthouse. This did not make sense either since we were not staying at Bou. Bou subsequently agreed to our request to have breakfast at the affiliated guesthouse. Rooms rates and additional requests as confirmed prior to trip would remain unchanged.

6) Bou subsequently informed that the free transfer to airport, as previously agreed, would not be available. Reason given by Bou was that we agreed to hire the driver from Bou for visit to the relics but instead we hired alternative transport on our own.

7) What transpired between us and the driver was that IF we needed a car for that day, we would then contact him. On the basis that we "played game" with Bou, Bou would also "play game" with us, as per verbatim from son of Bou's owner. Son hung up on my call after I suggested that we sort this out face to face to clear any miscommunication.

8) On day of check out, the owner of the affiliated guesthouse charged room rates differently. It became apparent that Bou did not inform affiliated guesthouse of our agreed room rates, even after we twice confirmed with Bou that rates remained as per agreed.

Summary of experience with Bou
a) Throughout the whole episode, we had difficulty contacting son of Bou's owner to clarify and sort out the issues (inability to check in, breakfast arrangement, confirmation of rates & transport to airport). Communication was done via a 3rd party (driver) or over phone

b) Son refused to take onwership and responsibility

c) Horrendous attitude of son during my dealings with him ("played game" reason & hanging up on the phone)

Personal Recommendation
i) Strongly recommend NOT to patronise Bou

ii) Although reviews on Bou have been positive thus far (also the reason why i chose Bou initially), it only takes one bad experience to bring out the ugly side of Bou, especially so if it came from the son of Bou's owner

iii) We were fortunate that the stay at the affiliated guesthouse had been wonderful. Count it a blessing in disguise.

iv) Hope that my personal experience will be a reference for travellers to think twice before patronising Bou. Afterall, we all have our fair share of good/bad experiences and i am by no means imposing all of you to boycott Bou. You decide for yourself. At the very least, if people come to me for advice, my stand is very clear to drop Bou Savy.

We booked this ages ago so were surprised and pleased to find a card with our names on at the airport! The tuk tuk driver realized he would need a second cart for us fat westerners so ordered one quick smart and we were delivered asap to the guesthouse. The room was spacious, clean and cheap. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had the nicest baguettes there that we experienced in the whole month away. Our breakfasts were very good and a free dinner was good too. Tuk tuk drivers always on the spot and informative. Internet worked fine. Nil complaints.

it's a pretty large mansion type building with the restaurant down in the front. the rooms were very spacious and very clean. the a/c worked well and there was good shower pressure! i was actually surprised by the food at the restaurant---we got a free dinner with the purchase of our rooms and i had the lok lak and it was delicious, and i'm not usually the type to eat in a guest house hotel...
highly recommend! i had a great driver as well, boonton, who we used for 3 days, we paid about 12/day. the walk downtown is about 10 minutes and it's down two streets (very easy) or a 1dollar taxi.

we stayed there for 2 days, while the first day the guesthouse is not available, mr Bovil arranged another accomodation for us and free stay for the second day, which is unexpected and touching.

All the staffs including mr Bovil family working together in running the guesthouse. for the free breakfast, i can see mr bovil taking the order while his wife is cooking the meal, which makes us feel warm like being a guest of their own. not forget to say, the meal is superb with cheap price.

you dont have to pay extra for the tour arrangement but only the tuk tuk fee, also, free transport to and from airport. love it. i definitely will come back in the future. thanks!

We stayed here for 3 nights. Was nice and peaceful in a quite little area. Rooms very clean and spacious, a little bare though. Place is like a big mansion. everyone takes of their shoes when going into the building! :-D. nice staffs. nice little resturant serving cheap, basic but delicous foods. There was the most gorgeous little puppy while we were there :-D he would be all grown up by now- i hope he is well! I loved that little guy :-)
would definitely stay here again

they have free pick-up which is very convenient. they also offer welcome drinks. the rooms are spacious and clean. they have hot water. they clean the rooms everyday and give free bottled water. free wifi but you would have to go down to the restaurant area so you can use it. it's better if you can use it in the room. we booked 2 rooms with them. it just sucks that in 1 of the rooms the ref is broken but it's a big deal to us. they cut the power when you're not in the room which is ok but it's better if they leave the ref running because after a whole day under the sun in angkor wat you would want to come home with a cold drink! the free breakfast is good and satisfying. they have a restaurant and the food is good. the staff are friendly and can speak english. if you're headed to bangkok you can book a bus through them and they will pick you up directly from the guesthouse. all in all, all good. i will stay here when i come back! hi sambo!
