Lovely stay at La paix. This hotel is a real achievement for an area with little or no infrastructure, and is an oasis of peace and calm in the middle of a hectic (and very very hot) town.
The room was excellent with fantastic huge granite bath open to the bedroom. Lovely toiletries in pots, refilled daily, good rain shower. Sofa area, desk area, well lit room , ipod docking station and millions of tv channels. Beautiful lotus flowers in room on arrival (although not replenished after that)
I wasn't oversold on the bar area - has an art type gallery in the middle which I felt made it a bit like a school assembly hall rather that somewhere you wanted to go for a drink. Spent half an hour here while waiting for the room on day one and didn't feel particularly at home in it - didn't have any atmosphere. We would usually have a few drinks in a hotel bar but weren't tempted here.
Reception area also a bit out of the way. Internet access on each floor very welcome.
Pool area very lovely to look at - we never used it but I suspect it could get busy. Nice sala type beds to lounge on looked nice.
Lots of cool and trendy things around hotel - the room numbers by your door, the statues in the hallways, the hammocks where you could have a meal, the flowers in the lift etc etc
Only had breakfast in the dining room - I thoroughly enjoyed it- best fresh fruit I have ever tasted and beautifully displayed. Hot food cooked to order, sparkling wine, and bloody marys there if you want them. Very relaxed and certainly beats the old scrum at some hotel buffet brekkys.
Had a snack sandwich lunch in hotel cafe and it was very tasty.
Great location if you want to be within easy walking distance to bars and restaurans - Pub Street etc. We ate out every night and enjoyed the Red Piano for Thai curries, Kama Sutra for excellent Indian and Khmer Kitchen. Lunch in Blue Pumpkin -lovely sandwiches and patisserie. Saw Apsara in Temple Bar - can do this while having a drink if you want -don't have to have a meal. Also drink at sort of club called Sok San which was a bit of people watching fun. Also had foot massage at Dr Feet opposide Blue Pumpkin and at place across from hotel.
Also good location for market - just across the road.
Didn't use hotel for trips as thought it was a bit expensive
Great stay, loved the opportunity to see Angkor and other sites before they get spolied, eat great food, do a bit of shopping and learn about this incredible country.
