My wife and I just stayed at the Peace of Angkor and we had a great time. Jim from California 2 suggested we stay here as Dave the owner is an avid photographer and is very knowledgable about the Temples and surrounding area. We took an excursion to Beng Malea Temple outside of town that was just fantastic and they offer other day trips. If you are a photographer, Dave is the man to see in Siem Reap. Thanks to him we have some nice memories to cherish. The location was away from the downtown area but it is only a short tuk tuk ride away and a much quieter setting.

Peace of Angkor Siem Reap: Recommended to us by a friend, the service we received before we even came to the Peace was great. They picked us up for free at the bus station (although it wasn't a car it was a tuk tuk). We received a deluxe hotel room, although I think that only meant it was larger (we didn't need that much space). The room itself was fine. There wasn't an in room safe, but the a/c worked fine. We were not given bottles of water in our room, but could request them free of charge. For our first two nights our water heater did not work so we had to take cold showers. When we complained on the morning after our second night and we asked to be compensated by a late check-out the following day (5pm) they said that was okay (the hotel was no where near capacity). We also had to change rooms for our third and final night because they booked our room to someone else. The funny thing is, is that they moved us to a room right next door that was exactly the same except it had an additional twin bed (so it could sleep three people); this room was available all three nights we were there so it is too bad they never suggested we could just stay in that room and not be inconvenienced to move. The other disadvantage of the Peace is that it is in the middle of nowhere. We had to drive to restaurants, and even if we wanted to walk somewhere we couldn't because the dirt (or mud) roads had huge holes in them filled with rain water; maybe in the dry season it would be more feasible. But it isn't close enough to walk to the market area which is where most of the restaurants, internet cafes, and shopping is. So we paid $3 each night to go there. We ate one meal in the hotel and it was okay, not horrible but not worth doing again. We were also required to take our shoes off at the front door of the lobby. I wouldn't have minded so much if they bothered to keep the floors clean; there was always a bit of dirt on the ground walking to/from our room on the second floor. This was also the only hotel we paid for that did not include breakfast which we thought was absolutely silly considering the price and location. The only main positive of this hotel was the service. Everyone was always friendly and nice, and they arranged transportation for us whenever we needed it. However, I would only give a recommendation to someone telling them all this, and we would not stay there again if back in Siem Reap. For the ~ $30 we paid, you can probably do better in Siem Reap.

Management Response

I am sorry to hear that rock2000 was disappointed in the location, shower and room changes. If the problem with the shower had been told to us earlier we would have immediately rectified. We only ask guests to change rooms as a last resort.

The road to the villa was being worked on and due to rain; it was left in a bad state for a few weeks; it was completed in October 06.

Khmer food is not always to Western taste and can be bland compared to Thailand. I am not an enthusiast for Khmer food; but we do put it on the menu to give choice. If anyone doesn't like a meal we will always try and resolve amicably.

If we are not told about a problem at the time then we cannot resolve it!

Just returned from my second visit to Siem Reap Cambodia. Don't let the word Guesthouse turn you off. This is a real gem. Owned by a European couple and staffed by locals, the friendliness of this place can't be matched. I have stayed in other guesthouse/small hotels in this city and Peace of Angkor is a real find. Situated about 15 minute walk (that is a high estimate) from the main town area. You can walk or easily get transport from one of the drivers at the hotel. Tuk tuk or motobike options. You can rent either for the days to visit the ruins. Prices up to $12/day for tuk tuk, 7-8$/day for motobike or $20 for a car and driver. We used Mr Pirouth sp? and highly recommend him for tuk tuk or motobike. The other driver they had was also excellent but i forget his name.
The GH has 11 rooms all extremely clean and comfortable. A/C, hw bathtub with shower, cable tv, fan and writing area. Rooms cleaned daily. There is a nice gazebo type place to relax on the grounds or try the upstairs balcony. The food is also good. Try the green curry it always pleased. You can eat in the small dining area off the lobby, outfront or on the balcony. The staff was very friendly and seemed to really care. They have 1 computer for internet use in the lobby. They keep cats around and a few cute kittens.
The owner is a photographer and loves to set up tours to some of the further out ruin areas. Prices are reasonable and they bring a very knowledgeable guide.
They have a hair dryer at the desk so ask if you need one. They will also transfer digital camera files to cdr for you at a low cost.
Can't say enough good things about this place. They never expect you to take THEIR tours like other places do. They don't buy customers from the KhaoSan Rd buses. The food is Good and reasonably priced.
Try them out!

I have just returned from a trip to SE Asia where I stayed in the Peace of Angkor Guest House in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. The pictures on the internet look good but it surpassed my expectations. The communal areas were immaculate, with beautifully polished wooden floors and great photos on the walls - all taken by Dave, the friendly proprietor. The rooms were basic but very comfortable and clean with essential air-conditioning! There was also a great veranda where you could sit and just take in the atmosphere. The staff spoke English and couldn't have been more helpful. Most of the hotels in Siem Reap are on the airport road -an area being rapidly developed. The advantage of the Peace of Angkor is that it is in a quiet residential road in the town within easy walking distance of the river and main sights. It specialises in photography services and trips and is really excellent value for money. Go there - I miss it already.
