“My favorite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Until you get to it it is hard to imagine the beauty and awe that one feels up close to this temple. The Buddha faces on the towers and entrance are magnificent.
A wonder of the world indeed!

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

The first view when you are approaching Bayon Temple is simply breathtaking. It sounds unbelievable that there was a civilization which was able to build something like this while in Europe the civilization was just entering its early medieval period. It is worth looking at all those different Buddha faces in those towers representing all provinces of Khmer empire as each of them express a different mood. Bayon Temple is definitely one of jewels of the ancient architecture.

“Amazing place. Go at lunchtime to avoid crowds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

As good as angkor wat. Don't miss taking pictures at the gate of the city. Climb upside to left of gate for best photos of your traveling companions. Go at lunchtime when others are avoiding the heat and eating. Only thing that was underwhelming was elephant but great reliefs in maze at the end of the elephant wall

“Architectural Wonder”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

At a time when there were no cement or other fixatives were available these master craftsmen build this mammoth structures without cranes or mechanical aid, they used their brain in a different way. Each piece were made at ground level by rubbing stone to stone so that sides fit to perfection and lifted and placed into position, just amazing when one think how they might have worked to construct these beautiful temple for us to see and admire, thank you the great architect and his workers in thousands, we salute you all.

“Archaeological treasure in a downpour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

Our enjoyment of our visit to Bayon was somewhat dampened - by the last real downpour of the rainy season. Although impressive, reclaimed from the forest, and very different from Angkor Wat, it is still largely a ruin, and everywhere leaks - there is simply no escape from the rain! My overall impression was one of sadness; how even before the troubles of the last few decades, all that devotion and toil had been abandoned, and counted for nothing, until the archaeologists arrived.
