“Great place to Stay in Siem Reap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2009

I stayed here for 3 nights in early May. The hotel is very well run with a friendly and helpul staff. The location is great, only a few minutes walk to Old Market, the Night Market, and Pub Street. I think i only paid $15 a night which was a steal for the overall experience. The hotel rooms were small but comfortable with TV, AC, and WiFi access. USD are accepted everywhere. I brought 300 USD with me in small bills ($1, $5, $10) to Cambodia on a fellow traveler's suggestion and it was really helpful.

We stayed here for 5 nights while visiting Angkor Wat. For the price, this was a great place to stay. The room was small and basic, but it was just what we needed. Small mini-fridge and cable tv in room. Air-conditioning, which was a great relief. We had a double room ensuite, but they also had dorm rooms available. Short walk to restaurants and shops in Siem Reap. Utilized a motobike service arranged by the hotel to go to the temples each day. Everyone was extremely professional and polite.

We had a great stay at the Mandalay. What do you expect for $18 USD/night for a double with air-con? It exceeded our expectations. Free water refills from a cooler was a great perk and good for the environment (no little plastic bottles). Close to action in Siem Reap but not in the midst of the chaos. The tuk-tuk driver they arranged for us was excellent and it was a fair price -- no hassles. The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was basic but clean, and given that we spent most of the day at the temples, (or at a cafe) it was more than sufficient for us.

For US$18/night, you can't get a better deal than this. The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of Siem Reap town - which has a few streets with an excellent range of bars/restaurants, and some of the cheapest prices in SE Asia.

This is a no frills hotel - but has all the bare essentials - bed, aircon (optional) private bathroom, hot shower - and delivers them well.

The hotel has a travel agent situated within the hotel that is a great help for setting up a tour/arranging transportation. The staff where very helpful - but you will find some of them struggle slightly with English.

You can find nicer hotels - but they are more expensive, and are situated farther from Siem Reap town - this one is a very short walking distance.

The Mandalay Inn is a fantastic find, I'm so glad I chose it. The location is only a 5 minute walk away from the main tourist area of Siem Reap. It's across the torn up main street, and a little bit down a dark road, and at first it may seem an odd location, but it's real close to all the action. Behind the red iron gate lies an oasis of comfort, service, and value!
The staff at Mandalay went above and beyond the call of duty to be helpful, polite, and smiling. They sent a tuk-tuk to meet me at the airport. When my friends flight was delayed, they sent another tuk-tuk later to get him too. The hotel arranged our tuk-tuk drivers for two days of exploring Angkor at the going rate of $12/day. Mao and Savoeun were great! They arranged laundry service. They have a restaurant which I didn't eat at, but was glad to be able to grab water and beers from their fridge at reasonable prices.
The hotel itself is all beautiful hardwood, shoes off at the door! I got the most expensive room they had, for $20, and I got two beds, sat TV, fridge, cold A/C. It was located in the back of the third floor far away from any road noise. They had single rooms with fan for only $8! I could live here for months at that price. One guy told me he got that room, and the A/C worked in it anyway. I will definitely stay here again.

We stayed here having read the Tripadvisor reviews and were a bit disappointed. The towels were threadbare and the bathroom had a few too many ants and was not entirely clean. Everytime we went out they switched off the electricity to the room which would have been fine had they switched it back on when we came back-staying in a top floor room it got a bit tiresome each time having to ask them to remember to switch it back on and then having to go back down the stairs when they forgot to switch it back on. We didn't look around other places so can't say whether it was good value for the price. Good location and friendly, if forgetful staff though, and the restaurant food was really good.
