Constructed of pink sandstone, the statues of this temple retain their elegance and suppleness despite the test of time. The decorations are highly refined. A "must see" when in Siem Reap.
The pink sandstone sets this apart as well as it's well preserved carvings. We found having a guide added to the experience by explaining the history and culture associated with each temple.
Banteay Srei is certainly worth a visit , it's quite amazing how much more intricate the carvings are. The temple is very small but well worth making the trip out from the popular sites. It took about an hour from the French quarter in our van to reach Banteay Srei , we also included a visit to the butterfly farm and Pre Rup temple on our return.. All up this took about three and a half hours, a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
For me this was the most beautiful of the Temples of Angkor, and well worth the extra effort (a Tuk Tuk ride through some nice villages). Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and the Bayon are all impressive but the intricacy and beauty of the carvings at Banteay Srei really blew me away. Well worth the trip!
Beautiful carvings. Further out from Siem Reap but we felt it was worth a visit. Along the way you will see beautiful countryside of Cambodian farming life. Stopped along the way and saw palm sugar being made. Go there!
