We toured with Bou Darath (aka Johnny) for three days in November, the tour arranged through our hotel, the Golden Temple. We thought he did a great job; personable, on time, speaks good English, and has an excellent knowledge of the history of the temples as well as current affairs. We are in our early 60's and were coming from cool weather; Siem Reap was our first stop on our trip, so the heat really nailed us.
Johnny did a good job gauging what he thought we could handle physically. We generally ended our day around 1PM, which was about as much as we could do. It would be a good idea for the tourist to have a good idea of what you want to see; it helps him lay out the day. Also, timing is important: we had a wonderful trip to Ta Prom because we got there early. We were elbows to armpits with a billion other people at Bayon because we got there later in the morning (we dawdled at Artisans de Angkor; our fault). So try to get an early start.
He has an excellent website at Angkor guide travel (all one word). I think he would be a good guide for people of all ages.
High points: Ta Prom, Banteay Seray. Wish we had spent more time: Terrace of the Leper King with the "hidden carvings.
In addition to Johnny, we had a driver Sam Son who also acted as guide on our last day. He was also excellent. Perfect, safe driver, good English, very nice.
