“just a smart backpackers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

I found the deal online and it was excellent for what they were offering. I was staying in Siem Reap for a month and was trying to stay at as many hotels as possible for review. Upon check in, i was given a room that was pretty vile, nothing like the photo. It took 4 room attempts until they offered me a room that resembled the pictures on the travel site. Even then, there were foot prints on the floor from the previous tenants (who clearly had an interesting massage). Oh, and my door number kept falling off...

I can't criticise the location, it's fantastic! and the pool has a great design, although it is situated 2 metres from a main road. The food is okay, but you're so close to town it doesn't make a difference.

The staff were willing to help me change my room and did always smile, but for a few dollars more i could have stayed in a 5* resort and had a much better experience (which is what i ended up doing). I checked out after 2 days (meant to stay for 9) and booked myself into a lovely hotel on the outskirts.

It's okay if you are on a budget, want the location and aren't too bothered about the small things. Otherwise..... meh!

Royal Crown Hotel & Spa is the new wing to the old Royal Crown Hotel. Both old and new hotels are connected, sharing the same lobby and facilities. The new wing of this hotel was just built in 2012, and everything in the rooms were very new. We enjoyed our stay in the hotel and would stay here again if we return.

We booked 4 Deluxe Pool View rooms for our group of 9. The hotel charged us an additional 10 USD a night for the extra person, but upgraded two of the 4 rooms Deluxe Double Pool View. While the original rooms were already very spacious, the upgraded rooms were twice the size of the other rooms. We opened the balcony doors for a while during the day, and many insects flew in. Would not recommend that. Noise from the streets and the lift lobby can also be heard from the room. But this were just minor problems.

Breakfast was great, with an egg station, and a decent buffet spread. The hotel staff was amazing, always greeting guests along the corridors and at the counters. We were welcomed with a cold drink and a cold towel, which was great after our 6 hour bus ride from Phnom Penh. Though the check-in process was quite long, the staff took the time to introduce the hotel's facilities and surrounding sightseeing tips. The hotel has 2 swimming pools, we only tried the one with salt water as that was bigger. It was always crowded in the hot afternoons, but since the hotel did not lock the doors to the pool, we went swimming at night and had full view of the stars.

The hotel also keeps the lobby air-conditioned, and stepping in out of the hot Cambodian sun was always a relief. Hotel is not more than 150 metres from the Old market, Night Market and Pub street. Even with a group of elderly, we did not have to take the tuk tuk at all during our stay in Siem Reap. With more than a 100 rooms, it operates like a proper hotel instead of a boutique hotel.

At the price we paid, I would say it was a very good deal.

Room Tip: Higher floors should have lesser noise from the streets.

The hotel is a few minutes walk from the night market where u buy souvenirs. Next to it is the pub street where there are lots of eating places and i must say food & alcoholic drinks are really cheap. A mug of draught beer cost about 75cents usd whereas margarita is about $1.50.

The hotel's location is very good.

The room is big and it has balcony. Its also clean and homey.
The staff are very polite & accommodating. We were allowed a late check out.

The breakfast has limited choices and the food tastes ok.
The pool uses salt water but we didnt have a chance to swim.

Overall i dont mind going back there.
