The roof top bar on the beach helped create a fantastic atmosphere. Some great cocktails and excellent food. Wonderfully relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Great party feel to the place, yet the rooms and dorms were all lovely and quiet. It was fully booked the first three nights I was in Siem Reap and I had to go elsewhere, so book early to avoid disappointment.
The beds were clean and comfortable, the staff ever so friendly and helpful. Work was nearing completion on the extensions and pool, when I was there, so it should be even better now.

Room Tip: Book ahead as it is often full up.

Besides being a clean hostel and having a helpful and friendly staff, it has a pool with its own bar on first floor and a great rooftop (banana) bar and restaurant with amazing food and drinks... Perfect place to meet other backpackers. Its a FUN place. Lots of plans for travelers everyday.

Will definitely go back when traveling to Cambodia again.

We styed there only 2 nights but now i regret that we couldnt be there for long or actually work there !!! The Place has the best localization. Internet is verry ggood, staff is very friendly, helpfull, speak really good english. I mean i just dont know what to add as theis place is just perfect. I wouldnt reccommend it for Familly traveling with kids as it would just disturbe them same as it would disturbe young backpackers. Seriously Guys Thank You For Hospitality and Everything!!!

Staff: Firstly I want to praise the staff. They are super friendly, put a lot of effort into you having a good stay and help where they can. Their English is pretty good and you can ask them for or about almost anything.
Facilities: The hostel has everything you need. First off all it has got a pool which is pretty awesome for a hostel. Then there is the rooftop bar which is a great place to be whether during the day or at night to relax, enjoy some music and company or to get awesome food, which brings me to the kitchen. They have a kitchen in the roof top bar (not for your own use) with great staff. The food is really, really good and I haven't had anything I did like. I just didn't expect to find that in a hostel.
People: In general you can expect people staying here that are outgoing, looking for party, fun etc. The owners were/are backpackers themselves and know what you are looking for. They organise a lot of stuff like Booze Cruise etc.
Location: The location is pretty perfect. You can reach anything easily by tuk tuk or even walk there (pub street 5min max walking distance, night market easily reachable on foot as well)
Value for money: Its not the cheapest place in Siem Reap but 7$ or so a night aren't expensive either. However with the money you spend here you not only get a great place to stay with all the above mentioned but also you can be assured that all the staff there get a fair pay as well as support with their career and education. They are a social responsible business (check out their Facebook page for more information). Travelling to a country like Cambodia I think you should be willing to give a little (be nice to the people there, spend money to support the local economy, make sure the people employed get a fair pay etc., preserve the nature and don't litter, support torturing of animals etc.) to receive A LOT.
All in all PERFECT place to stay no matter whether its just for a couple of days, weeks or months.

Room Tip: If you like your sleep maybe avoid getting a room on the ground floor at the pool area. There may be...

I stayed at the Mad Monkey for four nights over Christmas, as part of a six-week trip around Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

I arrived very late but the reception desk had two friendly staff who checked me in quickly and answered all the questions I had.

My room was a very spacious double, with an en suite. The decor was ever so slightly old-fashioned (to me, at least) but everything worked perfectly, towels provided, and for the money I paid it represented incredibly good value.

The rooftop beach bar is quite extraordinary. I've been to some places that claim to have a beach bar, but usually the name is writing cheques the bar can't cash. Not so at the Mad Monkey; most people kick their shoes off at the door, the whole place is nine inches deep in soft sand (regularly raked by staff, so it's free of cigarette butts and anything else that could potentially injure your feet), the views over Siem Reap are lovely, and the vibe is just fantastic. There is also a beer pong table, which gets a good bit of use!

The drinks in the bar are a bit more expensive than you might find down the road (still only $1 for draft beer) but I was more than happy to pay the extra because the places down the road are nothing like as nice to be in!

The food is also excellent. Some of the best (if not THE best) Cambodian and Western food I had on my whole trip. They also put on a proper Christmas dinner, which I really enjoyed. I can recommend the Kampot chips, and the sandwiches and wraps.

The hostel also run a lot of events and competitions (participation entirely optional), and they even did a White Elephant gift exchange (Secret Santa) on Christmas Day.

All of these accolades amount to very little without an appropriate atmosphere to knit them all together. Fortunately, the Mad Monkey has oodles of atmosphere. Oodles and oodles. When I've stayed in other hostel-type places, my enjoyment and appreciation of them has depended very heavily on who else is in the hostel. Perhaps I felt this more keenly because I was travelling on my own, but I nonetheless think it applies to groups as well, to an extent. The great thing about the Mad Monkey is that everything mentioned above (and more besides) combines to create a very relaxed and sociable atmosphere.

It's very easy to meet people and make friends there, but it's also very easy to go about your own business without feeling antisocial.

During my stay, there were several families (some with young children),
some couples (young and old), a few groups of varying sizes, and some so travellers too. I think it is a testament to the concept, staff, and hard work behind the Mad Monkey that such a variety of people come to stay, and seem to get so much out of it.

I thoroughly recommend a stay here, and I sincerely hope I will be able to return before too long.

If you're looking to socialize, have a great time, meet people and be in the center of things happening in Siem Reap - Mad Monkey is the place to stay. Executed in style and with lots of humor, you are sure to enjoy your stay there. It has a distinctively-backpacker flavour to it, and, let's be frank - there aren't many hostels with an outside pool and a rooftop bar (with proper sand!) you've ever been to! Sure, if you're looking for a quiet, laid-back place to sleep and not be bothered, perhaps this is not the place for you; but if you want to see it all and enjoy yourself to the max - fo to Mad Monkey.
