“First stay at a Orient-Express Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

The location of the hotel is perfect as a base to visit the Angkor temples ; Floating Village and in the evenning to visit Pub Street and Night Markets etc. We were met by driver/staff at airport, welcome, reception and hotel staffs are exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Enjoy meeting the local staff along with a group of international staff from Japan, South Africa and Mexico.
We had one lunch and one room service during our stay; we found the menu can use a few more Asian favourites and a bit more creative than club sandwich , burger and pizza.
Breakfast is plentiful and of good quality, but four days in a row having the same menu can be bit too much.
We find there is room to improve the quality of the furnishing and decoration for a suites at US$ 600 per night. Some of the lights were not working properly.
We went to the Spa for various type of treatments and found that there is room for improvement in quality and standard at that price level. The pool and garden are exceptionally well design and well kept.

We recently stayed here 3 nights while visiting Ankgor Wat. The hotel is in an ideal location in the heart of Siem Reap and is the perfect place to return to after a long, hot day at the temples. Our room was very quiet, the pool was beautiful, and the entire staff extremely pleasant and helpful.
We especially liked the fact that the manager has the children from a local orphanage, Together for Cambodia, come to the hotel each Thursday night to practice their English with the guests. It was a delight to spend time with the children and one of the highlights of our stay. I can unequivocally recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Room Tip: rooms facing the pool are probably a little quieter

We stayed here as part of our recent trip to Cambodia.
La Residence was first hotel and what a perfect start after a long trip
from Scotland, you will find here the perfect base for visiting the temples.
We ate in on the first night and the meal was fine yes ok prices were
a little more than going out but given the convience and the quality
it's unfair to compare with prices for meals elswere.
We agree with the comments about breakfast plentyful and again
as much as you whanted.
Good free wi/fi was appreciated
I see some fellow travellers complaining about the mozzies!
Well my advice would be Don't go! as they are a fact of life out there!
Our room was well appointed and spotlessly cleaned did have a small problem
with a blind which was quickly delt with.
So as a starting point for an adventure in Cambodia this is the place to stay.

From the moment I checked in, the thought popped into mind, "Uh, OK, may I check in and never, ever leave?" All of the staff have perfected a balance of grace, friendliness, warmth and professionalism. It seemed within the first 1/2 hour, everyone knew my first name. Such a welcoming ambience.

Was in Room #8 (very spacious, luxurious bathroom as big as the bedroom, very precise air-conditioning) on the ground floor, a few steps from the simply sublime pool. The pool is such a work of art, perfectly reflecting the stunning tropical foliage that you almost, almost, don't want to jump in and cause a ripple. But jump in, you will! The water is refreshingly cool, the perfect antidote to January's "cool season" 32C-with-37C-humidex temperatures. Though my room was close to the road, I was never bothered by any road noise due to the high, thick wall.

One day, I forgot to lock my room safe. The cleaning staff alerted security, who changed the code and locked the safe. Then, they accompanied me to the room upon my return to verify that all was in order. All with no prompting from me. Very professional!

The restaurant offers equally nice indoor (with AC) or outdoor (perfect in the morning and evening) dining with a very nice "apsara" dance performance 3 nights/week. Try the Khmer feast. Absolutely delicious. When a waiter spotted me one evening swatting a single mosquito, he immediately rushed over with a mosquito coil.

The upstairs open air bar is the perfect evening "chillaxing" venue. Hit happy hour and with 2 Singapore Slings for the price of one, you will be in your perfect holiday state of mind in no time. And, the heart of Siem Reap's "Pub Street" (an uber-fun United Nations crossroads of fellow travellers) is about a 15 min walk away or a super-quick 2 min "remork-moto" or tuk tuk ride. Try "For Life" restaurant, you'll dine like a king or queen, all for US $5.

The front desk staff arranged private tours for me with two outstanding guides, one local man named Morin (see my separate review on him) and one ex-pat photographer named Alessandro (see the hotel website). Both men were amazing guides who made my trip to Cambodia special and memorable.

Overall, one of my best travel experiences ... I loved every moment at La Residence d'Angkor.

The hotel is well located within walking distance of the markets and many restaurants. The interior offers a degree of tranquility from the busy streets and at night the gardens are lit which creates a lovely setting. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choice, including fresh fruit, cooked options and pastries. For me the staff were the highlight of my stay. The hotel is not too big and the service very personal. Staff are friendly and keen to assist whether it is booking a restaurant, organising transport or even learning a few words of Khmer. They have a quiet professionalism and helped make our stay in Siem Reap memorable. Thanks.

Unfortunately, Hotel de la Paix was closed for renovations (it's going to reopen as the Park Hyatt later on this year) and the Aman was sold out (but we probably couldn't afford it anyways). So I booked a suite at La Residence. The room itself was very chic and had a spacious bathroom, but it was plagued by mosquitoes. When we first entered the room, within the first 10 minutes, we killed about 5 mosquitoes. When we complained about the mosquitoes, the staff dismissed it as a natural occurrence and said that they couldn't switch us to another room because all the rooms were full. Someone came in and sprayed the room, but even after the spraying we found 2 other mosquitoes.

The Asian food at the hotel wasn't very good. If you want Cambodian cuisine, go to Viroth's, a five minute walk from the hotel. If you're really set on eating at the hotel, stick with the Western dishes like the hamburger or the duck pasta. There weren't a lot of hot good selections that were good -- the Asian specialties were inedible, and by the 3rd day, I was tired of eating omelets. The hot selections were placed outside, and there were a ton of mosquitoes swarming around, so by the 3rd day, I just stuck with the cold selections indoors.

The spa was pretty inside, but I would not book a treatment here unless it was part of some package or perk. They are expensive, especially compared to local competitors. The massage that I had (which was free because I booked through AmEx travel) was ok.
