“Amazing hideaway in Siem Reap”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

Stayed here Jan 8 2013 for 3 nights

Siem Reap is a really amazing place, but there are lots of weird large hotels that are void of character and seem a little dingy. This hotel was AMAZING. It was sexy, discreet, the service was impeccable, the rooms were spacious, the breakfast delicious, the pool perfect, and the decor in general was the perfect mix of Cambodian and Western comforts.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat, and will tell everyone I know to stay there while in Siem Reap.

Worth every penny. Service and hospitality worth so much more and better than any western place.

Also, the manager was there when we arrived and greeted us, which was a really nice touch.

Thank you!

There is a heap of accommodation in Siem Reap, from back packer to Aman at $1000 per night. We paid over $400 per night!

We were excited to find an Orient Express property which had until now always associated with top of the line luxury, but, despite the rave reviews of other "trip advisors" here, we could not agree that la Residence is anything beyond "good" certainly not great.

It is an older property thats showing its age, but lets start with the good stuff.

The bed was big and soooooooo comfortable, it was tempting to stay in bed all day and totally quiet!
The gardens and pool were great.
The staff were willing and gracious.

However,

The pool decking was rotting through and collapsing in places

The food; we had breakfast for several days and a high tea - just plain ordinary, dull, not tasty and fresh, hardly good enough for an Orient Express property
I love lying by a pool but I hate skin cancer, but it was impossible to manover the umbrellas to stay out of the sun, that is unless you are a weight lifter!
We had a "river view room" , probably better to call it a canal view room with absolutely no privacy from the road between us and the canal. We complained about the ground floor room which those on the street could look straight into, and were elevated to a first floor room that the people on the street could look up into. Looking carefully around at the "pool side" rooms, I suspected that few most offered a choice of "no natural light" or "no privacy", and perhaps both!

Room Tip: Demand a room with privacy if you want to be able to disrobe with the curtains even a little open.

...and that is exactly what La Residence is. What else would you expect from an Orient Express property? Just entering the grounds, I knew immediately I was 'home' in this foreign land. Of course, beyond the incredibly perfect grounds, the staff would rival one anywhere. Attentive, lovely, sweet, respectful humor and an insatiable desire to understand those that visit their country each staff reached out to say welcome a hundred different ways. And management - always at the center of a great staff - The Australian Manager (forgive me for monentarily forgetting your name) was the 'glue' to a perfect experience. My husband could not stop complimenting the music played in the lounge area - we were told that, according to the guest list at any given time - the management selects a sound track to reflect her current guests. Yes, that is why one can feel at home, even when so far away. THANK YOU - all of you for a marvelous, exceptional time. I should add that the food was excellent - breakfast had as many options as anyone could hope to choose from - the spa was excellent and a lovely atmosphere - service around the pool discreet and attentive,...Not only is the hotel beautiful, but the staff shines! This made our Siem Reap experience perfect! Oh, and by the way. I do hope all staff is getting ready for next year;s marathon - just one more way the Manager creates a marvelous team - she has them run together in the annual marathon.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden/pool area are probably a better bet than 'river side' since the...

I travel for both business and pleasure and this is quite possibly the best hotel I've ever stayed at. From the moment I stepped into the lobby to the time I checked out, the staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. The rooms were so elegant and fresh. I swear they pumped a frangrance into the room. I also booked tours of the temples through the hotel and had a wonderful guide and driver. The location is also perfect because you can walk into Siem Reap to go to the markets or dinner, but come back to this tropical gem. I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat.

We stayed a few nights at La Residence in January 2011 after it coming highly recommended from my mother, and we were certainly not dissapointed. The grounds were fantastic, the food excellent and the service second to none.

This is a very short review, but I really cannot fault our stay here. It was, and still is, the nicest hotel experience I've had. We stayed at many beautiul hotels both in Cambodia and in Vietnam on our trip, but this topped them all.

Will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Pool rooms were fantastic.

My family, including 3 teenage boys, recently stayed at La ReResudence d'Angkor for 5 nights in Late December. From the moment we arrived until we left the staff were absolutely excellent...friendly, attentive, caring, helpful! We have travelled quite often as a family and this is definitely the most attentive staff we have encountered. When we returned home we sent an email to the manager to remark on the wonderful staff, something we have never done before but felt compelled to do as were we so pleased with their level of care.
The hotel is lovely and relaxing with a tropical oasis around the pool area to rest and unwind after a hard day of sight seeing. It is a short tuk tuk or 10 -15 min walk to pub street, which for us was perfect, preferring to be in a more relaxing area than surrounded by the loud, hectic pace of Pub Street.
One major bonus of the hotel for us was discovering on the first day that the locals play volleyball about 50 meters away from the hotel each afternoon. Our teenage boys were keen to join in, and were welcomed by the locals to play. After our first afternoon of volleyball our entire sight seeing itinerary got slightly altered as the boys wanted to go to the volleyball area each afternoon about 4.30pm. It was great fun, some of the hotel staff played there after their shift so we got to know them much better.
Cambodia was a great destination, Siem Reap was terrifc and la Residence was great - we would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going.

My wife and I just completed a 3 night stay, and we have traveled all over the world, and stayed at some wonderful hotels, and this was one of the nicest. Whole decor is so elegant and tropical. Reminds me of the Four Seasons in Hualalai. The restaurants were wonderful, the open air lounge on the second floor, which we went to every night, was also great ($9 for a martini and second free). Hotel staff was second to none. We were always recognized, and always treated like royalty. Spa was also a great value. We were also surprised we like Siem Reap so well, and all it at to offer. One of favorite destination, and would recommend it to anyone.
