We stayed at the Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor for four nights at the end of November. The staff was impeccable, always friendly and professional. The staff at breakfast made an extra effort to learn our names which was a very nice touch. Speaking of breakfast, the breakfast buffet was excellent, a good mix of Asian and western cuisine and lots of very tasty options. We also enjoyed relaxing cocktails in the Elephant Bar and in the Conservatory.
Through the hotel's concierge, we booked a hotel car / driver for two and a half days and an English speaking tour guide for two days. Both gentleman did a great job and we felt it was money well spent. Nara, our tour guide, was knowledgable, helped us avoid crowds, and provided some of his personal perspective on Cambodian history. Sarik, our driver, kept the car immaculate and had cold towels and cold water waiting for us every time we returned to the car. Having these two take us around was definitely a luxury but again, well worth it from our perspective.
In addition to the major temples in Siem Reap (Bayan was my favorite), I'd highly recommend the trip out to Beng Mealea. It's a 90 minute drive from the hotel but well worth seeing and exploring.
The Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor really helped make our visit a fantastic one.
