“Going to Siem Reap you MUST stay here.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Stayed here recently for four nights and cannot fault it. Staff, amenities, convenience, location and the resort itself exceeded my expectations. And the pool is awesome complete with swim up bar!! Staff deserve a special mention, they all could not do enough and seemed genuinely happy to look after us!

Room Tip: We stayed on third level which was excellent. Not all rooms have balconies tho, I recommend a balco...

This hotel features the most beautiful garden & lilly ponds which make you feel at peace no matter how busy your day may have been. The rooms are large, light & very well appointed. The staff are a stand-out. Unobtrusive yet always there to help you with any request, large or small. The staff add to the feeling of peace & well being. The location of the hotel is also good. Far enough away from the crowds but still close to Angkor Wat, pub street & all the other attractions of Siem Reap.

Room Tip: I like rooms on the ground floor with a view of the garden & the lilly pond. A bacony is nice to...

This is truly a wonderful hotel.
We spent 2 night here and have only compliments to give the hotel and its staff.
We booked a junior suite and as AdvantagePlus Platinum were upgraded to a beautiful prestige suite, which included a living room with baldony, a bedroom with balcony, a big bathroom with bath tub and shower and two toilets.
We received a lovely welcoming gift which included a huge basket of fruits, some cakes and some pretzels. We also received 2 small boxes of Cambodian chilly, 2 scarves and 2 drink coupons.
The beds were a bit hard for us and the room was not light-tight, but that didn't matter to us.
The hotel grounds are absolutely STUNNING, and the bridge leading to the gues rooms run over a beautiful pond.
The hotels has a beautiful swimming pool, which felt private, most of the time, since we we all alone there. Mind you, the hotel DOES need to install some extra light for after dark, as the pool is dangerously not well lit.
Breakfast was ok, as we somehow felt there was not enough options for vegetarians.
Dinner at the Citadel restaurant was nice (don't miss the Khmer dancers at 8:00PM) and very nice at the French restaurant (great atmosphere).
The service at the hotel was great and each request was greeted with a sincere smile.
Bottom line - this is the ONLY place to consider staying at while exploring Angkor.

Room Tip: Go for one of the bigger suites.

We were a party of 4 plus toddler. We were made extremely welcome. Check-in and check-out couldn't have been easier. As everywhere in that part of the world, children are beautifully looked after and finding a reliable babysitter is easy. This allowed us to explore Angkor Wat at leisure over 2 full days with the help of an excellent guide recommended by the hotel. We loved every minute of our stay. We had delicious breakfasts and meals in the hotel and two lovely dinners in town. On the first night there was a beautiful representation of Apsara dancing, indoors, as it was the rainy season. We were told that at other times of the year dining and dancing takes place in the superb garden. The rooms were most comfortable with fantastic beds. The swimming pool is the best (and warmest!) we ever swam in and is ideal for children. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Everywhere we went we were told that this being the rainy season it was the low season. The result was that there were only hundreds of people with us watching sunrise over the main temple at Angkor Wat (which we thought were quite enough) instead of the usual thousands we were told normally came. It was well worth being there at that time of the year. We were happy to forget about the rain and enjoy wonderful days with fewer tourists visiting Angkor Wat or staying in the hotel. If you are prepared to do the same you won't regret it!

This Sofitel is built in the American Resort style. Constructed around a small lake with a raised walkway transversing the lake, lined with picket fences and festooned in dark wood furniture you could be anywhere in the world. The rooms are large, if you upgrade. Depending on the time of year don't bother with a balcony - you cannot use it either becos of heat or humidity. The service is outstanding, indeed if a little too invasive. The excellent staff are at your elbow ready to meet your every need. This can get a little wearing. That aside the pool and bar are excellent. Best of all is the spa. Really excellent treatments at an ok price. It is located a short drive from the temples and from Pub Street. Try Khmer Kitchen for some great simple food. Try upstairs at Red Piano during a thunderstorm. Best seats! If you go to the night market bargain hard. Silk scarves with Angkor Wat on them can be got for < $3 for a ok quality piece. Don't bother with Artisan D'Ankor. Very expensive. If you want to support the NGOs shop in one of their places. There are loads about town.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay with us. I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed our spacious rooms and found our bar, pool and spa excellent. In fact, our spa facilities have recently been upgraded to “So SPA with L’Occitane ”, our signature Sofitel wellness brand. I have already passed on your feedback to the spa Team, they were all very proud to know that this feedback was on the net.
I regret to hear that you experienced the service to be invasive at times. I know the service team always does their utmost to provide personalized service, we will discuss the matter with our department heads and training manger on how we can tackle this issue without removing the eagerness of doing well from the Team. We are happy to inform you that as of recently merchandise and local handcrafts that directly supports local orphanages and schools are now also available in the hotel. Thank you again for your all your comments, we all would love to have you back during your next visit to Siem Reap – Fabrice Ducry/General Manager - Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra

I stayed here for 3 nights in January 2012 on my first visit to Cambodia. The hotel grounds were very clean and once we entered the lobby there was someone playing the er-hu which was very soothing. The room was reasonbly spacious and faced the swimming pool. My friend chose this hotel as it had a gym and I was pretty impressed with the huge pond in the middle of the hotel which was very nicely maintained with trees and shrubs growing around. The hotel staff were always very friendly to me.

Another good thing about the hotel was that it was very near to Pub Street and Angkor Wat so we did not have to travel too far when we woke up at 4am to see the sunrise on our second day there.

Overall, I would recommend staying here as it was a nice retreat from the bustling streets of Cambodia.
