Set in beautiful and peaceful gardens, this oasis was just what we needed after 10 days of hectic sight-seeing in Vietnam. Trouble was we were there to see Angkor Wat in all its glory! De luxe room was superb in annexe to the main building accessed by walkways over ponds. Service at the pool, bar, and room excellent but non-meat eaters beware of the French restaurant. "We do not eat meat" depsite being understood by the maitre de, is not recognised by the chef who tried to serve us foie gras!
Nevertheless a serene, idyllic hotel.

Arriving mid evening after a difficult day we were welcomed with a cool drink and checked in efficiently. Our deluxe room in the right wing overlooking the pond and garden was well furnished and very quiet. It was nice to be able to open the doors to a small private terrace area with a couple of timber seats and table, beautiful view of the pond and gardens. Bathroom was nice and deep tub was great. Housekeeping was high standard and invisible, just the way we prefer it. Great to have a fresh coffee maker in the room with plenty of supplies for the early morning coffee addict.
As we arrived late and tired the room service supper was excellent, as was the breakfast spread. Otherwise the food was very average and options limited so opted to eat out.
Staff very attentive and no problems getting transport as it is a couple of minutes from the main part of town. The pool area and pool service were excellent, there were a few shaded and quiet spots to relax in and out of the pool.
Small business centre with fast internet access for those who just have to stay in touch.
A late check out at 2.00pm was complimentry and appreciated that we could come back after trooping around the markets, repack and freshen up prior to sitting around a hot airport lounge.
Like most visitors we did not spend an enormous amount of time at the hotel but it was a great place to relax after walking all day and the service really was 5 star.

Stayed for 5 nights !
Rooms - Spacious, comfortable and clean.
Hotel facilities - basically a pool and spa.
Restaurant - not much choice and boring selection of food. We just ate at the town area after 2 days of boring food. Was quite upset that we didn't know there's a weekly fri night seafood buffet! No banner or information at all.

Not much of a complaint except for the reception desk. We have to check out early as our flight was an early morning flight. No one was on duty and we have to shout till someone appeared to attend to us in a sheepish manner. It was difficult to check out as he doesn't know how to explain the bill to us. We asked for the duty manager but he said there's none. Then he didn't even print out the visa receipt for us to sign. We insisted we must sign a visa receipt for our bill and he thus printed it for us.
We were rather appalled.
I produced my frequent flyer card to have him put in the points for my stay but he has no idea what it was!
On our way out, we have to drag our own luggage to the taxi with no bell-hop to help us to even open the door! Everyone looks as if they were still dreaming even though it was 6am!

We couldn't believe it's considered a 5-star hotel.

This hotel is beautiful - the lobby is wonderful, they have a fantastic pool with a swim-up bar, a lake and feature an outdoor Khmer dancing show, the breakfasts are fantastic. We had a nice large room with a large balcony. The only downside to this hotel was its location - it is closer to the ruins than the town but a bit too far outside of the town for our liking - you have to take a tuk tuk into town - there are not streelights so it can be a bit scary on your return trip and you have to deal with the tuk tuk drivers all fighting for your business. The town itself is nice with some good less expensive restaurants and you can walk around the town - there is a great craft store off of the main street. It seems that many tourists just come to this hotel and see the ruins and never see the town or mingle with the locals - which is a shame. The highlight for us at this hotel was a huge bat that hung from a huge tree by the pool - we saw it on two occasions - it is benign but huge and amazing to see it fly away - plus it eats the mosquitos!! We had a problem with our flight and the staff were great - bringing us important faxes right away. You can also change money at the front desk with is nice.

We were at the hotel in the low season - June - and had the hotel to ourselves. The staff was lovely and spoke great English. The hotel also left a small token in our room for my birthday which was a surprise and very kind.

The indulgence: 1) the price for the meals was very expensive, 2) the hotel's high standard isn't really necessary (if you are there to see the temples you'll not spend much time in the room and when you are there you'll be exhausted)...Overall, a great hotel but there are plenty of other places for much better price.

Personally, we also felt guilty spending the amount of money we spent for the hotel when there is so much poverty in Cambodia and looking back it would have been better to support a small local business instead of an international hotel chain...

  • Liked — proximity to the temples
  • Disliked — the cost
