“Perfect place to explore the temples of angkor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We stood at the EG Hotel for 3 nights in August and we were more than excited. All in all it seemed to be more a fife star hotel (big room with all comfort you can imagine). The breakfast was included and as well very nice. There was a big pool so we could go for a swim after climbing around the temples. But the best: The hotel provided a guide and a tuk tuk and they took us around the whole time (only the two of us). The guide (Mr. Sokpee Sumsot) was extremely well prepared and answered all of our questions with a lot of patience in good english. We learn really a lot and it was more than worth having a guide with us. Concerning the location: it is a 10 min ride by tuk tuk to the city center of siem reap. But that is absolutely not a problem as the hotel provides free tuk tuk rides to the city center, the ride back is 2 USD.

We stayed at Evergreen for several nights in August. The staff was exceedingly friendly and well-informed. They took great care of us, including helping to arrange our travel needs. Unlike at least one previous reviewer, we did not find the staff dishonest or misleading about the prices of things, or about what they said they would do for us. All was as advertised. It's true that a full day at Angkor with a tuk-tuk will cost you about 15-20 USD, and a half day about 10. Evergreen hotel has 2 significant downsides, but neither would keep me from choosing it again: 1) it is a 10 minute tuk-tuk ride from town (luckily they provide you a ride for free at night), and 2) the restaurant is pretty sub-standard. Even a fruit shake will take 10 minutes to make, and cost 3 times as much as anywhere else. The breakfast buffet in the morning is not well-stocked. Every single day we had to ask them to please cut some fruit, or make some coffee, or put out some bread.

A newly opened hotel obviously need to make more improvement to enhance its facilities and services. The breakfast replenishment is abit slow and F&B should monitor the expected patrons. The rooms should at least provide 2 type of towels and shower cap. However, overall it is reasonable for the price we paid. Will recommend to others who does not want to spend big budget on accommodation. Love the garden and the cooling lobby. Staff are friendly and warm, willing to assist at anytime.

After a month's wandering through S.E. Asia, this clean, well-managed hotel was among the very best we had the pleasure to stay at. The staff is unfailingly helpful, the grounds and building nicely maintained and looked after, and the rooms clean and nicely appointed. It was the perfect spot to land after a day of traipsing about Angkor Wat and other sites.

If you elect to engage a tuk tuk driver to ferry you to the surrounding sites, ask the staff for Baby (truly his name). Very nice guy who charges a reasonable $20 for the day to take you around from site to site.

As mentioned in other reviews the hotel is a bit outside the old market and pub street area but for 2 to 3 US dollars you can take a Tuk Tuk. The distance from the old center is nothing compared to the amazing service by staff. They were all so lovely, everyone always had a genuine smile whenever and wherever we were greeted. Very clean and new. Incredible pool to relax in after all the temple trekking. We were able to arrange for a foot massage by the pool. The last day, our flight did not leave till 6 p.m. They were extremely accommodating, and the dear manager came to speak to us and asked if we had any suggestions for improving their service. Well no, everything was great!! Great place to stay and consistent with the rest of our experience in Siem Riep. My favorite place, hands down, of all the countries visited in South East Asia. Love Cambodia and all the lovely people we met!

Room Tip: great Pool!!!

This is a fairly new hotel. The rooms are lovely. It's extremely clean and modern. It has a really nice swimming pool, great after a day temple-trekking at Angkor Wat. For the price of USD$25 a night it seemed like a great option.

The location is a little outside the town but with so many tuk-tuks around that isn't a problem.

The major downfall here is the staff. They are dishonest. I was recommended this place by a friend who got free tuk-tuk rides into town and had read that on here but when we asked at reception we were told we had to pay $2. I needed to speak to the manager about a couple of issues and asked him and he said each room is entitled to 1 free tuk-tuk ride a day into town. The staff were obviously in cahoots with the tuk-tuk drivers to get as much money out of guests as possible so were paid by us and the hotel.
On our first evening we booked a tuk-tuk driver through the hotel for Angkor Wat the following day. We were told it would cost $20 as we wanted to be collected at 5am to do sunrise. We were told that no matter how long we had him for it would cost this because of the early morning. We had no choice but to book at the hotel as we arrived late in the evening and needed it for the following day. We were supposed to have him from 5am - 5pm regardless of what time we left Angkor but he disappeared on us at 11am as we went back to hotel to shower. We complained to the manager who arranged we only pay half day rate of $10. The story of paying more for sunrise was totally untrue.
Also we asked about renting bicycles and staff told us to go directly to the rental place which wasn't convenient as we wanted them for 6am so we asked the manager who sorted it immediately and had bikes ready at 6am for us.
The manager was graat and apologised for his staff but I definitely think they need to brush up on the training. It's newly opened do hopefully things improve as it could be a great hotel.
Oh and breakfast was awful.

All in all a nice hotel, good value for money considering the pool but watch out for the staff and if you have problems ask directly for manager - don't bother with the reception staff.

Dear Valued customers,

Hope both of you are doing well!
We would gladly say many thanks to all of you for being in our Siem Reap Evergreen Hotel during your vacation in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Thank you so much for your spending your important time to share your idea by writing review on Tripadvisor about our weak points for improvement.
We are aware with all our weak points that you suggested as most of our staff were new during that time and they had not been trained well, so some information were not quite clear to some of them, so that you were charged $2 for a ride to the town because they were new staff(trainee) stand by in that time as the experience once was busy direction other guests to the room. About the transportation fee normally by tuk tuk is $15 to $20 to go around Angkor Wat temples area and it is depending on the customers spending time to visit. We can not guarantee the time because some customers they spend a bit long to visit temples specifically and some other customers just a quick glance, but they can request the driver taking around to the markets in town instead in the afternoon. For our breakfast we set a buffet(American breakfast) and we set in different in each day(serving from 6:30am till 10:00am), but it is on request if the customers come late for breakfast, so they can have different choices.

I was very happy to meet you for discussion and I have learned more from your advice as it is very important to correct our weakness for improving our service more better and the best in the future.

We have been trying all our best to improve our service for serving to all customers in order to make them feel confidently and happily during their holiday.

Hopefully, we could service both of you in the next shortly future.

Sincerely Yours,

Sathya

This is a really nice comfortable clean hotel. While it is a bit far from the old market, if you rent a bicycle (ask a tuktuk driver to take you to a rental place) it is less than 10 minutes away. Or you can take a tuktuk. I liked this place because it was away from the noise of the town center. Hang out by the pool and forget the world outside exists...

Room Tip: Got a good deal on the price by booking from hotel 9 in phnom penh.
