“Surprising gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Wooden Angkor was a great value for the money. It's located just one block off of the busy main tourist drag in Siem Reap, so it's easy to walk everywhere, but still quiet to sleep at night. The hotel staff were very friendly and helped us store luggage, get directions, etc. The room was spacious for Asian hotels - the bathroom even had a full tub! The decor was all dark polished wood that added much to the charm, and there were many common balconies, day beds, and nooks to comfortably relax. The in-room massage was also great - good price and compared well in quality to others I got around town.

Everything about this place was top notch. Staff was excellent, went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Room was clean and well kept. Quick walk to pub street and plenty of available tuk tuk drivers to get you to the temples. Easily would stay again and recommend to anyone.

We stay here for three nights when visiting the temples. Location was good and the staff were nice.
Our tuk tuk driver charged $15 for the day, and we got him thru the hotel. We gave him $20 as he was great. He said the hotel took $3 a day commission of him.
Also we booked a bus to HCMC and they loaded on another 5 bucks per ticket, so be aware!

We trusted the tripadvisor reviews and booked this place way back in September.our hotels in Vietnam were consistently great throughout.

We were greeted by a horrible stench on the third floor which got worse in the room (307).As another user mentioned, there is a sewage behind the hotel which is responsible for the stench.what irritated me was the fact that the staff did not offer us another room or apologize for the same.We were informed that the stench was on account of the room having been closed all day long and there being poor sure circulation!!

Another grouse was the horrible service at breakfast. The staff reduced the hash browns that we were entitled to on a daily basis and were very rude and inflexible when we asked them for other options.

Avoid this hotel till they fix these issues, particularly the stench.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a very enjoyable 5 days in Siem Reap.

We were very impressed with the rooms. Good size and well furnished. Again, with what almost seems typical of Cambodia are these giant beds, big enough for 4!

The service was second to none. Very very impressed. On our check out day we weren't leaving Siem Reap until 2am the next morning, they allowed us to use the (very comfortable) chairs and beds in the hotel lobby until we left. And continued not to be able to do enough for us, providing towels to lie under, coffee and tea, water and of course a bathroom!

Only downsider, for my girlfriend not for me, was if you didn't want a cooked breakfast there weren't options like cereal and / or yogurt

Excellent otherwise!

There's a pipe backed up in the building, and the entire third floor reeks of sewage, though some rooms (304) are worse than others. It is worse at certain points of the day, like the morning, than others. Staff is very apologetic, and has obliged by moving me to the first floor. It's much better here, but I can still get whiffs in the washroom from the pipes, and I felt really bad watching the poor house-keeping staff get left with responsibility that clearly requires a plumber---not a scented candle.

The other guests are complaining about it as well, but some aren't staying here very long or are too intimidated by the language barrier to say anything to staff, who seemed quite surprised there was a problem. The smell of feces is strong enough to fill the entire room, not just the washroom. It creeps into the hallway, and I can still smell it on my luggage after moving.

If they fix the smell, I'd have no real complaints. It can be a bit noisy, but that's the trade-off for the great location close to the markets. The airconditioners work quite well, there's enough hot water, and the beds are firm but clean and comfortable. Staff have been very kind and responsive.

But seriously, stay anywhere else right now. I wish I had.

Room Tip: Don't stay here at all until they fix the plumbing, but if you have to, make sure you don't...

Me and 3 others were travelling in Cambodia for a few days; we had no where booked for the first night.
Prior to arriving in Siem Reap we heard good reviews of this place. Instantly greeted by friendly staff! Due to our short notice they didn't have the rooms we wanted but happily solved this problem and gave us two doubles instead of twins. Even though rooms were not ready they gave us two rooms to use shower. The morning staff helped us plan our days out told us what is good to do in the area, helped us rent bikes out for the day for $7, equipped us with a map circled out area to go and see.
They have friendly hotel touk touk drivers; We had a friendly Ra drive us around the temple loop.
We enjoyed our stay that we cancelled our other accommodation arrangements.
Definitely recommend staying here it is very well located, friendly environment, yummy breakfast, staff are great and very helpful, clean and comfy!
