“Great Place, only thing missing is pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We stayed here last week on our Siem Reap/Ankor Wat part of our trip. Room was clean, and the staff was SUPER friendly, good english. The rooftop restaurant was good and well priced, even compared to the street food. Breakfast comes with room. Other places near by had pools, but they had nice Koi pond in front. The place is indeed all old hard wood and is a gem, in and of itself. Very near " Pub Street and Night Market " but far enough were you don't get noise. Safe walk too.

My sister and I got a room for the night when we first arrived and after looking around on the ground at other places we realized we had hit the jackpot from the beginning with Wooden Angkor. We liked it so much we actually stayed longer in Siem Reap than we had initially scheduled.

The staff was very friendly, trustworthy and honest, gave good recommendations and helped with information of all sorts. The wifi was fairly fast and easy to connect to, the free breakfast was ample and delicious, the room was clean and well appointed (including a safe in room for additional peace of mind), and the various lounge beds in the reception and the rooftop terrace a great place to get away from the noonday sun. The only caveat is that the pillows were a bit bulky and the shower curtain didn't properly keep water out of the rest of the bathroom. Minor stuff.

As someone involved in the tourist trade I can say that this is a very good team and a great place to call home for a few days. I'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: upstairs and towards the back for a quieter stay and a nice breeze with the windows open.

Had a reservation which they had no record of initially. Were asked to sit down for a moment while they looked for it. Came over smiling and prompting me to think they had found our booking. When we got shown to room, it was not the King Bed room we had booked and paid for. It was a room with twin beds. Upon appearing a bit unsure of what was going on, staff member just mumbled and shyly seemed to say sorry.

Now this room was BAD. Stained walls, old bathroom with inexplicable gutted hole in the side base of the old, stained bathtub. We don't normally fuss but considering we paid for a bigger bed, we demanded our rightful room later that night and that's when they confessed to having lost our booking. While we got the room the next day, we just couldn't trust them. What was really disappointing was that they would have carried on hoping that we wouldn't complain about the dismal room. King Bed room the next day was MUCH better (what we paid for and hence the only reason I have given them an average rating). New fittings, good bed, balcony etc. Basically, be careful as they may pull one over on you if you let them. Location is actually rather good. Just a pity as to how the stay started.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay in this beautiful, friendly, comfortable hotel. The staff were fantastic, really went out of their way to help us and were always smiling and welcoming. The room was big and pleasant, the bed a bit too firm though. The breakfast on the rooftop was a nice start to the day. Happy, vibrant staff.

This hotel is in a great position for shopping and sightseeing. I have never encountered such helpful staff. Very pleased to give any advise and pleased to book travel/ leisure tickets for you while paying no more than if booked directly. All of them spoke reasonable or very good English. Amazingly breakfast was served from 6.00 am until 3.00 yes 3.00pm with 6 choices all freshly prepared. We booked directly through them and got a good discount..... For the quality of the hotel and service the price was simply out of this world. Numerous times of the day when we went in and out of the hotel we were offered complementary cold water , coffee, and most importantly very appreciated cold towels which was sheer bliss. One thing struck me as odd was that we had to remove shoes/ slippers before entering the hotel. However it was not a great issue since they had immaculate well polished wooden flooring.

Room Tip: No lift, if it an issue request a lower floor.

Having perused a never-ending list of places to stay in Siem Reap (with so many differing reviews), I finally chose the Wooden Angkor Hotel and from the minute I arrived, I knew I had chosen wisely. From the charming wooden interior, to the friendly staff, to the beautiful smell of lemongrass in my wonderful room ... this was one of the nicest places I've had the pleasure of staying in (for the price) in a long while! The room was a good size, clean, with bath and shower, A/C, TV and free wi-fi. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from all the commotion of central Siem Reap (Pub Street etc...), so it's perfect for those wanting to be near-by but not submerged in the noise of boorish drunk westerners and shouting tuk-tuk drivers.

We spent three nights at the Wooden Agkor Hotel in early Sept 2013. The hotel was amazingly rather empty maybe because of the name change or maybe because we were in the dead of the off season. Regardless, this hotel was very impressive to our party of 4 (two couples, two rooms). It was my responsibility to find and book a hotel for our small group and with all the choices available in Siem Reap it was not an easy decision to make. With an extra 40% discount that sealed the deal however the members of my party were a little apprehensive at what we were going to find for that price. We were all happily surprised that it was such a nice property, such a convenient location and such wonderful group of staff that run the business with a lot of care and attention to details.

If I had to point out a couple of minor points that we noticed one was that the mattresses were not the softest in the pile, it took a little time to get used to it. Another point would be that the breakfast is ordered a la carte but by the third day it has become rather repetitive. Not a deal-breaker by any means but that is all that I can think of that would be considered negative.

On the other hand we kept saying to ourselves that this was such a nice place. The staff was so courteous, friendly and helpful. That we thought we were in another world. The wives enjoyed the "in-room" massage and nails service so it turned to be a win for everyone.

If you are undecided about where to book, I would strongly recommend this hotel for it's proximity to the center of town, for it's clean and pleasant environment and for the attention of the staff that is always at your service. Without hesitation this is probably the best value that I have received this year for sure. Don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed.
