“Wonderful reception & amazing value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Staff couldnt be more helpful. Arriving in monsoon rain shower after a stressful 12 hour journey from Bangkok they answered our every request! Incredibly cheap (possibly as its not right in the center of town) the rooms were spacious with nice finishing touches (for that part of the world) & bathroom very clean. The mother cooked us a very tasty dinner & the local beer was great. They organised our onward journey & provided us with a trustworthy, hassle free tuktuk driver during our stay for a good price. Cant recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: We opted to save a few pennies with NO Air-con room, this was a mistake as it was so hot whilst we w...

We stayed at haks for just about a week while staying in Siem Reap. From the beginning it was a perfect stay. Hak had arranged free transport from the bus station even though we arrived late at night. When we arrived, we were handed two free bottles of water (there were two of us) and told we could refill it from the large jug whenever we wanted. The room was spacious, with plenty of shelves and tables. The tv and channels were flawless, and, most importantly, the best was the most COMFORTABLE BED I've ever slept on in any of my travels. It had to have been brand new. The bathroom/shower was clean and worked well. Hak also provided free bike rentals (not the best of bikes but they worked) and was extremely helpful in booking anything else that we needed. The fact that Hak speaks excellent English was all the more helpful as well, and his staff was always friendly and helpful. Finally, and maybe most importantly, the food they cook is some of the best in the city, including their home made fries and Khmer cuisine.
Some people might say it's a bit far from the main town center, but it's only a 15 minute walk and a dollar if you want to take a tuk tuk. Overall, we had an excellent stay at an even more excellent price.

One of the most helpful staff we've come across in our trip. Their tour prices are also some of the best you can find and their drivers are such wonderful people! Surely we would stay here if we ever return to Siem Reap.

The owner is incredibly helpful! Unbelievably so, he can speak excellent english and offers laundry services, taxi services as well as local advice, trip arrangements and accommodation geared towards western visitors.

The place itself is located down a dirt lane about 1km away from the main areas of the city centre so its perfectly located.

The rooms were comfortable, clean and fresh.
If you go to Siem, stay here!

Hak is the most helpful host I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

He arranged a tuk-tuk driver to pick me and a friend up from the bus stop*, got us Vietnamese visas in three days for $40 each, set us up with a friendly and cheap tuk-tuk driver for two days of temple touring, directed me to a good pharmacy and gave me a bike to get there, fed us nice breakfasts, and arranged our transportation to Vietnam. I had made my arrangements with him ahead of time and he was great with answering emails quickly and thoroughly.

The guest house itself wasn't the best I experienced. The location is a bit inconvenient if you want to be in the heart of the city and the room we stayed in wasn't anything to write home about. Overall though, the place was fine -- a comfortable lobby, free drinking water, good wifi, and nice food.

* Watch out for scams at the border and when arriving by bus in Siem Reap. Many guest houses advertise free bus station pick-ups but as it's difficult to find out which bus stop your bus will be going to, it's hard to arrange this -- especially if, like me, you don't have an international phone. When I arrived (after sundown), I asked a tour guide guy from my bus which station we had arrived at and he wouldn't tell me the name. Many people asked to borrow his phone to call their drivers. Since he was trying to help out the other drivers who were waiting at the station, he refused. I suggest trying to avoid this situation by either just accepting that you have to take a tuk-tuk from the bus station or ensuring that you know which station you're at.

This relates to Hak's house because when I needed to get a ride back to his hostel, many tuk-tuk drivers refused to go there because Hak tells people not to trust their scams. Even though Hak's absolutely right in saying this, it made it inconvenient to get to his place sometimes, and it's definitely a far enough walk from Pub Street and the other main attractions in Siem Reap.

Still, I DEFINITELY recommend staying at Hak's because of the impeccable service and friendly locals you'll meet there.

Hak's house is 1 km from the center (it's good for the noise). We stayed 4 nights in August 2012. Hak helps you to visit Angkor Temple with his super-covenient tuk-tuk service. The room is good (only one fault: they didn't change the bath towel for 4 days). The breakfast is included and it's ok. So, this GH is highly recommended and Hak will help you for everything.

Our bus from Phnom Penh was 2 hours delayed and we were really thankful that the tuk-tuk driver from Hak's House was still there waiting for us when we arrived at the bus station.

Things I like about Hak's House:
1. They can serve breakfast anytime upon request and you can request for an additional jam (for free)
2. Drinking water is served for free just don't forget your water container.
3. Wi-fi has a very strong signal anywhere in the guesthouse.
4. They have their own tuk-tuk for hire.

Things to be improved:
1. If you're very particular with the smell, I guess you need to bring your own bathroom towels.
2. They don't provide soap and shampoo.
3. Our bathroom has a leak so the floor was wet all over, request for additional rags.
4. When it rains, the street going to Hak's house is flooded so always ride on a tuk-tuk to avoid getting wet.
5. During our stay we experience 3-5 minutes power interruption but that is not a big problem except maybe during a very hot season.
