Our dining experience at Kanell for our last night in Siem Reap was the best choice we made. We were the only guests when we arrived at 6pm. We sat on the terrace instead of the garden as we were afraid of potential insect bites. The restaurant felt like an old Cambodian house with lovely oriental decorations and lightings.
The banana blossom salad was so delicious. I ordered French style pork sirloin which was a little dry for me but the accompanying sauteed potatoes were mouthwatering. The black sesame icecream on french toast was interesting with its ginger and cinnamon flavour beautifully balanced however there was only one scoop of it and my husband, whie having a chat with the manager, said it was too small. Then the manager kindly offered us complementary passionfruit from their own garden with sorbet on top. We heard from him that the owner is a French who has the original chain in France and they have a French and a Cambodian chef.
Pricewise, very reasonable considering their standard of service, food, and the ambience-1 entree, 2 mains, 1 dessert, 2 fruit drinks and 2 alcoholic drinks all came down to around US$40.
I would highly recommend Kanell and would return again if we visit Siem Reap again :)
