“Perfect! Go Now!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

My family just returned from 4 nights at the Siddharta Boutique Hotel and I would recommend it to anyone. The staff are beyond friendly, the rooms are basic but very comfortable and clean, the pool was fantastic and the food was great. Breakfast was simple, but always very good, and the one dinner we ate in the restaurant was surprisingly good for a small hotel restaurant. Their fried pork spring rolls were the best we had in Cambodia - and we tried them everywhere we went!

The very best thing about this hotel is the staff. They were friendly, helpful, attentive and just simply wonderful. They also arranged for our tuk tuk driver, who made our visit even more special. Mr. Theux (#5) got us to all of the temples and knew exactly where to take us for lunch every day. He stocked the tuk tuk with water, and even added beer when we asked him to.

Siem Reap is amazing no matter what, but this hotel and the tuk tuk driver were the icing on the cake of the best trip we've taken in a long time. GO!!

We stayed for at Siddharta for a full 6 days and each day was wonderful. The staff friendly and efficient, rooms clean, large and comfortable, pool excellent. Food was good and generous in portions.
It's the kind of hotel you wish your every holiday destination had!

This hotel is very well designed and maintained. Rooms and bathrooms are large and comfortable. Everything works and the staff are competent and friendly. Food was mostly good. Breakfasts are very good, and depending on what you order, lunch/dinner can be good. We stuck to Khmer dishes, except for the odd pizza, and most meals were good, if not remarkable. The staff definitely stand out for their willingness to help. We were very impressed with everybody at the reception and restaurant - they clearly take pride in doing their work well. Reception staff also helped us find a nice restaurant on New Year's eve and called in reservations for us on several occasions during our 4-day stay.

The saltwater pool is clean, but takes up most of the open space within the property. This can be a problem if you have a ground floor room, as the verandahs are only a few feet away from the loungers and I felt there was no privacy. The pool is reasonable in size, but 8-10 people is probably what it can take at a time.

The bathrooms are large but functional. Ours tended to get wet after a shower as the water went into the dry area and did not drain fast enough. Take your own soap, shampoo, moisturizer etc. as the stuff they provide is basic.

Laundry service was fantastic and reasonable.

Tuk tuks were included, and the drivers were really helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.

Restaurant closes before 10 - we were late getting there one night and it was already closed. If you are traveling with children and going out for meals is difficult at night, call your order in before you go out so that the staff know you are eating at the hotel.

Definitely a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Higher floors probably better if you want to keep some distance from the loungers.

On three trips to Siem Reap over the past several years, I have stayed in 4 hotels in Siem Reap, including two 5-star hotels. For the money, this is by far the best deal. After staying in a slightly higher rated (TripAdvisor) hotel near downtown Siem Reap, I wanted to get closer to the tropical savanna and away from the urban noise. The ambiance at this hotel was absolutely perfect. Service was excellent. The large rooms, including bathrooms were spotless, Sony flatscreen TV on the wall, etc. Yet, you are just a 5 - 10 minute Tut-tut ride from downtown. You're also 10 minutes closer to Angkor Wat, et al. for the early morning to the temples. My wife is picky, yet I won't hesitate to take her here my next trip.

This was my favorite place to stay out of 4 hotels we were in while in Cambodia. While the actual hotel building, the room, and amenities were all quite lovely and deserve a high rating on their own, what really made this place stand out was the staff.
The staff:
Yes, Cambodians are generally nice and friendly people that will often go out of their way to help strangers (lost white people). However, the folks at Siddartha went and extra mile or two beyond the Cambodian standard. The staff, from the concierge folks, to the assigned tuk-tuk drivers, to the restaurant staff – all did a fantastic job in making us feel welcome and comfortable.
For instance, when the tailors missed the deadline on my shirts, the tuk-tuk driver, Mr. Chey, got their number and called them the following day to check whether my order was done. Note that I didn’t ask him to do that – he was simply being extremely thoughtful and helpful. It turned out the order was delayed again, so he saved us an hour of waiting on the dusty road waiting for the order to be done.
What really stunned us was that after we checked out and did some more city roaming before our late flight, the concierge offered us a room to shower and change since humidity and road dust would make our flight rather unpleasant. Yes, that’s right. The concierge offered us a room. No charge. We didn’t ask. Just pure, unadulterated, excellent customer service.
The room:
Larger than other rooms we stayed in and better decorated. Rooms are clean and well kept up. You get all the standard amenities – mini-fridge, security-box, A/C. Rooms have a semi-private outside areas for late evening drinks and a smoke – I reaaaaaally enjoyed those. Showers are rainfall style and have good pressure – key after climbing the ruins all day. The only minor quirk is the drainage system. Showers are split from the rest of the bathroom by a semi-wall, but are otherwise part of the bathroom. The main drain in the stall seems to be installed on a slight incline so a few seconds into the shower you will notice water moving towards the rest of the bathroom. After a minor flash of panic you will realize that you will not flood the whole place – there is a second drain installed on the other side of the wall that separates the shower and the toilet. Not a big deal, but don’t panic – and know where your towel is ;).
Another lovely feature of this gem is the roof top café / patio. The food is good and reasonably priced. The included breakfast is far better than any others we had in Cambodia – wide fruit selection, some noodles, porridge, and any-style eggs upon request. Coffee can be stronger though. The place has a small library so you can read something while waiting to watch the sunset or hear the monks pray at a nearby temple.
Hotel also features massage with several massage rooms. Massage prices are fairly cheap given the quality of the other accommodations and the fact that it’s in the hotel. I am fairly picky about pressure (I’ve got some muscle, so most masseuses end up moving skin around). I tried the Traditional Khmer massage ($14 for 90 min, yes 1.5 hrs!) and I was very pleased with the pressure. Not sure I completely like the massage style, but that can’t be blamed on the therapists – I wanted to experiment.
The hotel also assigns you a tuk-tuk driver for the duration of your stay. It was great as we got to actually know a bit about out driver and connect on a more than just “consumer/service provider” level, which was nice. One word of advice, tip them well (at least $10-$20/day depending on distance traveled) – they are there for you from early morning till 10 pm. And they wait for you in the awful heat while you monkey around temples or markets. Sure, you don’t have to tip anything, or you can tip just a few bucks – but it’s basic human decency – just because you can take advantage of someone, doesn’t mean you should. Just think of how much a similar personal chauffer service would cost in your home country.
So to summarize, great hotel, awesome people, wonderful experience.
Would I stay there again? Do you have to ask?

We had a great experience at Siddharta. The room was clean and comfortable, with a relaxing outdoor sitting area. The saltwater pool was amazing, the staff was friendly and helpful, breakfasts were very good and the massages were fantastic (and reasonably priced). The hotel is in a good location on the northern side of town so you’re closer to the Angkor Wat temples. It’s also set off the main street a bit giving you a calmer and quieter experience. Our rate included a private tuk-tuk driver which was a big plus. Getting around was easy, and our driver was also an excellent tour guide. He helped us make the most of our visit and always had a big smile and ice-cold water waiting for us when we finished our sightseeing. I would highly recommend Siddharta on your next visit to Siem Reap.

Stayed for 4 nights just before Christmas - The room was clean and neat, the staff was extremely helpful (hotel even provided mosquito coils so you could sit outside in the evenings on your patio), breakfast had a lot of options and choices (eggs, fruit, porridge, yogurt, breads, asian fare, etc.). The beds were a bit hard, but after a long day of temple-going, you really didn't notice as you passed out =). Massages were great for the value (better than and less shady than the $1 massages found on pub street). To top off our stay, since we had an early morning flight out before breakfast - the hotel packed us a breakfast to go to enjoy at the airport. It was a great hotel for the price and I look forward to returning.

Location was great - closer to the temples than the main town (Pub street, etc.) and far enough away from that noise. The included driver is a major plus (no need to haggle).

Side note: We upgraded from a tuktuk to minivan and added a guide through the hotel. We were not disappointed (our guide Sokky(sp?) was well informed about the history of the temples, his English was great, and he knew all the best picture spots. =)
