“Highly ambiguous stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

+ location. quiet area, away from the hustle of main road.
- location. for last metres to get to HGV, one have to use a muddy or, depending on the weather, dusty road without street lightning.

+ pick-up service if you arrive by plane (from what we read in other comments here).
- no pick-up service if you arrive by bus (at least for us, coming from bangkok).

+ building: sort of french colonial-style building.
- building: at the time we stayed there, it was a construction area. So forget to get any sleep after 8 am. Not even on sundays. But as heavily as the workers doing their job, this problem should be solved soon.

+ rooms: huge, beds are comfortable and cleaning staff does a great job by cleaning the rooms every day. AC works well, too (but we had to ask for a reset, because it didnt work properly when we moved in).
- rooms: Bathrooms have clearly seen better days and Wifi didnt work in our rooms.

+ breakfast: free tea and coffee in the common area.
- breakfast: compared to restaurants just around the corner small and relatively expensive.

+ owner: extremely friendly and helpful guy, can help you with everything (tours, bus tickets, recommended restaurants,...). But, there lies the problem, too. Here is what we have experienced:

We booked tickets for a minivan to Phom Penh and ended packed up in an highly uncomfortable, old Land Rover with 5 other people. We could feel every bump - and there are a lot of them on the way to PP! Also, they forgot to tell us that we get picked up to get to the "minivan" 45 min before departure. Tough, when you are still in bed at that time.
Also, we did 3 tours with one of his tuc tuc drivers he is working with. At the first day, we had to argue with the driver about the price which had been agreed on beforehand. But communication with him was extremely difficult due to non-existing english skills.
On our last day, the owner told us that its so hard to get a visa in Phom Penh easily and in our specific case impossible within the next days due to a public holiday. Just be critical on the information you get. We got our visa without any problems within 1 day after arrival in PP.

To sum up: we had a highly ambiguous stay there.

We were that stayed her for four nights :
Good points:
location - very close to the night markets and pub street.
free coffee and tea

Bad points:
air condition is weak
despite air condition a lot of mosquitoes - couldn't sleep at night. We told them but still problem wasn't addressed.
construction happening which starts at 8am to 4.30pm. If somebody wants to sleep, cant sleep
when help is needed, half the time you cant find anyone at reception. service overall is poor

SR holiday garden villa is on a muddy street 5 min away from pub street. room was cheap, spacious, with high ceilings and comfy beds, but towels and bedding smelt like mildew... bathroom was nice, European style, although the toilet needed a good clean up. stuff is very nice. the hotel is being remodeled at the moment, so every morning the loud construction noise starts around 8am... i do not recommend booking buses with the hotel as their commission doubles the actual ticket price. i did get into the tramp and booked "a good bus" to phnom penh for 11 USD, this bus was non existent, so i ended up in a regular dirty and dodgy bus for 5 USD... was no point paying double as the hotel cannot guarantee you a good bus service, but just takes money for the commission. safer and cheaper to buy your tickets directly at the bus terminal.

I've been here over a week. The staff are super friendly, and my possessions are safe here (unlike other guesthouses and dorms around here). The Wifi is one of the best in town, though obviously in this part of the world it will never be 100%. The guest house is close to Pub Street where the action is but far enough to sleep properly. I really don't have a single thing to complain about here.

The owner is careful to pick trustworth tuktuk drivers, and the price of his tours are good and can be trusted.

My main reason for staying here is that possessions are safe here. Some of the guest houses around here are not secure.

Room Tip: The dorm and the single rooms are good. I think there's a deluxe room but I didn't see it.

Dont stay here, poor service. Over priced for what you get. Things I hate about this place,: 1.) internet is very slowewww and most of the time was out. Especially in second floor.2.) many times water is out during my stay. 2. Brian always find a way to over charge. Also very fake and half of the time you cant find him when you need him. Unprofessional and walks around shirtless... Gross. 4. Not clean. 5. A/c which is supposedly the reason why I booked this hotel.. Was very weak. .. Also Location is very dark at night... Not enough light so I didnt felt safe walking. quite a walk from pub street. Only nice thing about this place is the front desk staff and housekeeping. The owner sucks. That bald guy is annoying. Overpriced! Stay somewhere else.

Stayed in a dorm room and 3 bedded room with friends. Both clean and with air con. Staff and owner very friendly and helpful. Some cute kittens running around. Only qualms were the ongoing renovation and used their tuk-tuk driver, felt he was no more trustworthy than finding one on the street.... He was definitely doing deals to get more money out of me at the attractions I went to. Disappointing especially as they charge more than the going rate.

Everyone who works there is very helpful and informative. The price is reasonable, the service is good, and the best thing is I can help myself with the hot water they provide for tea, coffee, etc.

The place is cosy, comfortable, I much more than I had expected. I will definitely stay there again if I visit Siem Reap again.

The living room has beautiful wooden furniture and the benches are really comfortable.

Good job, this is the best guest house I have been so far. Keep up the good work.
