“Nice place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

This was a great place to stay. Clean tidy rooms. Hostess was lovely. Would recommend to anyone. A short walk to the market area and pub street. All arrangements easy from hotel. Breakfast could be a little larger but no general issues. Not many views from rooms.

We arrived late at night and had little sleep. In the morning when we came down for breakfast a warm welcome and sweet smile greeted us by Mrs. Sotheaya and wow we fill so alive. She's a nice person. She helped us arranged our tours in Siem Riep. Our double room is spacious and clean with tv, fridge, AC and free breakfast. They changed beddings and towels everyday with free toothbrush, shampoo and soap. Water is no problem and they give free drinking water everyday. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Mr. Lay, the tuktuk driver, was very patient waiting for us and Mr. Rohm, our tour guide in Angkor Wat was very knoweldgeable and friendly. So I would say Sam So Guesthouse is a nice place to stay when visiting Siem Reip. Your feeling would be like " home away from home" because of her personalized service.Thank you Mrs. Sotheaya, it's been a pleasure meeting you. We hope to see you again.

We stayed here for 8 nights and enjoyed our stay. We paid $17 for a double room which includes breakfast, aircon, good wifi, fridge, tv, fan, and the room was cleaned daily. Hard to complain about anything here, the bright yellow walls were a bit much to start with but we soon got used it. Staff were always really helpful and friendly and we used there tuk tuk driver who was great and laundry service. It's a 10-15min walk to old town or 5min bike and you can rent their bikes for $1 a day, easy to cycle to temples from here too. We would stay here again if we came back to Siem Reap.

A very good hostel. Very clean with very friendly staff. Only saw Sam So once but he seemed like a really great guy. Great value. I wish the staff knew a little more of the details about places to visit but maybe I just caught them at a bad time.

Room Tip: I'd go with the AC room if it's dry season..

My son and his fiancé and I met in Siem Reap for a backpacking trip in Cambodia. We stayed in the Sam So guesthouse for 2 nights. I had reserved this on the internet and I had a pick up tuk tuk from the airport as well as picking up my son from the bus station. We asked for no airco rooms so we got the top floor rooms with a nice view. The guesthouse is tucked away from the street so you have quiet nights except for the occasional barking dog. Mrs. Sotheavy took care of us as if we were her own children. She arranged for a great tuk tuk driver for the 2 day visit to Ankor Wat. He was exceptionally good and friendly and even took us back to some places we wanted to see again. We were charged a very fair price for the 2 days tuk tuk. The rooms are clean and simple, but you get what you pay for. The breakfast room is outside and that is nice in the hot weather. Breakfast is good and sufficient. Mrs. Sotheavy even waved us off the evening we left, as if we were family. This is a very good guesthouse, well situated and with extremely nice people running it. Of course if you want a luxury room, then you should go to one of the 5 star hotels in Siem Reap. We were very pleased with our choice. The weather was exceptionally hot so this made sleeping a bit more difficult, but you adapt. And this is in no way any fault of the guesthouse. We were offered a spare room the day we left so that we could shower and clean up after a hot long day of visiting the temples. We left that evening with a sleeper bus to Sihanoukville. Mrs. Sotheavy took care of our travel arrangements and we heard later that people from other hotels paid more than we did! Free internet in the guesthouse was great and it was even quite fast! All in all I can totally recommend this guesthouse.

When you look for a clean room in a quiet side road of Siem Reapwith excellent service for little money - go to Sam So Guest House!

We stayed at the Sam So Guest House for 5 nights in a nice double air conditioned room and could have stayed longer had we had the time! Everyone was incredibly helpful, always friendly and polite, and happy to organize transportation or help out with directions. They organized the tuck-tuck services to the temples for us, at a very fair price.

The rooms are very clean and the hot water is excellent. The rooms are also cleaned every day and new supplies of toilet paper, bottled water, toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo resupplied (beyond what one would expect at a low-budget guesthouse). Also considering the breakfast, which is included in the room rate. If you do not like the "standard" plain fried eggs with toast, butter and jam, you can ask for a special arrangement like noodle soup or noodles with vegetable etc.

What makes them really special is they provide a family-like service.

We stayed our first 5 nights in Cambodia here in a double fan room and could have stayed longer had we had the time! The staff were incredibly helpful, always friendly and happy to organise transportation or help out with directions. We were even given a spare room to rest and shower in for no extra charge on the day of checkout because we had an 8pm bus to catch. When you add up the cost of the room and breakfast for two people it is seriously good value.
The rooms are very clean and the hot water is excellent. The rooms are also cleaned every day and new supplies of toilet paper, bottled water, toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo resupplied (beyond what we expected for a lower priced guesthouse).
The only downside for some people may be the distance from old market and pub street area (10-15min walk) but luckily its a nice walk along the river and bicycles are only $1 a day to hire from the guesthouse. There are some very good value restaurants along the adjacent street, which are well worth a look for the budget traveller. It was sad to leave such a friendly neighbourhood but we hope to visit again someday!
