“Excellent value in a great location and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

As many others have noted, the property is really 3 or 4 separate properties clustered around a small side street. I had chosen the Superior B&B (single), which meant a room above the pool with a small balcony. The room is fairly basic, small TV, A/C, desk etc. The bathroom is a bit patchy in terms of hot water, but for the price, it's clean and relatively new. The pool was lovely, and the food was also great quality and value. The hotel is really only a 5 min walk to the centre or markets, meaning no need for a tuk tuk of an evening.

What makes this a great hotel is the service - from arranging a good value pickup from the bus to arranging for a drive to see the temples, they are very helpful in tailoring this to your need. The drivers were great, and very friendly, and reasonably priced. You might pay a few extra dollars, but you are guaranteed to have someone you can rely on, and who knows their way around.

Room Tip: Ask when you arrive to see the options if you are not sure. Very hard to tell online!

My partner and I spent 5 nights here and after a couple of room changes, due to 4 flights of very steep steps we found the room that suited us perfectly. Right near the pool and breakfast area. The GB B & B is located in a quieter part of town on the other side of the river and the walk into town is only about 5 minutes, which we enjoyed as we were able to take in the sights, sounds and smells of Siem Reap.

All of the staff were more than helpful. They all went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and helped organize a tour for us. The staff should all be commended for their english skills as they all spoke it very very well.

The rooms are basic yet with a distinct Khmer style. It was exactly what we needed after touring the amazing and humbling Angkor National Park. Yes the steps were steep to our room but it was only one flight.

The saltwater pool was perfect place to cool the body down. If only more hotels used saltwater instead of chlorine.

The only gripe that I have is that the GB allow people who are not guests to come and use the pool for a fee. We had to endure 3 afternoons of two young British girls speaking very loudly and using language that was unnecessary. I understand that this would help the GB earn more cash in the low season but I think they should have stepped in and asked these young 'ladies' to tone it down a touch as it was ruining our wind down time.

I would definitely stay here again if we get back to Siem Reap.

I spend here a week. The salt water pool is a most try in town. The rooms are clean and comfortable and provide a good sleep. Due that the hotel road is an small alley you feel in a small town. The rate include the breakfast and the prices in the menu are similar to those in the rest of Siam Reap.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Be advice that the tuck-tuck drivers try to take you to other hotels, but try to reach this place you will be positive surprised.

We started with a room at the basic B&B, but wooden ceiling and not strong enough AC made it difficult to sleep. Our friends also got a room with quite a scary entrance, so we decided upgrading to the superior B&B and we're very happy we did. Much more spacious room, better isolation, perfect AC. The only problem are the steep staircases (typical cambodjan, anyway), which may make difficult access for some people. Good wi-fi (Except one-day, it was off due to heavy rain). Gorgeous swimming-pool and nice sunset from roof terrace. Breakfast OK, orange juice could be improved.

We stayed at the B&B section of the Golden Banana during a 4 day trip to Siem Reap. The location is great, just a short walk to town center. The hotel is perfectly clean, the rooms are great and have A/C and it's affordable. If you get tired of seeing Angkor, you can always lounge at the pool - which is also really nice. The best part of the hotel is definitely the staff, who were super helpful with everything we needed during out stay.

I spent there 5 nights and loved it-- it was small, charming, cozy spaces, a nice salted water pool and affordable laundry service (you could also walk 1 block and find the local places where they do your laundry 1 USD/per kilo).

As others, upon arrival i got a welcome drink and the overall instructions on how to move around town and so on. One of my few "remarks" is that the AC was not "working" or "cooling enough" if you had to turn it on and off every time you arrived to the room, and the staff immediately instructed me to leave it on for my whole stay which made me feel a bit guilty with the power consumption.

I slept like a baby all the time, but i imagine that the rooms next to the pool can be a bit nosy. My room was a bit like a bungalow and had some large cracks in the wood (front door and windows) that i bet didn't help to keep the AC inside (or the geckos outside).

The staff was amazing, for me as a solo female traveler, they were very accommodating with the tours and all. I read another review where it mention that they thought all of the staff where gays but i don't really agree with this opinion. Its a gay friendly hotel, yes, and sort of known for this, but its friendly all around, i would say.

The fresh fruit smoothies and juices are great, for sodas and stuff like that, being a hotel, they have a higher price. If you are trying to save a few bucks, you can walk down a block (in the International Youth Hostel street) and buy sodas, beer and water if needed.

Would definitively recommend to friends (and its super affordable as well!).

Room Tip: I bet the superior rooms are a bit more "Equiped" but if you are only in for sleeping, sho...

it is one of the best hotel in town and everything was absolut perfect. we arrive with the night bus from sihanoukville and the transfer tuk kuk was on time waiting for us. when we arrive at the hotel at 0600am a very friendly staff were waiting for us with some nice cold towel and cold drinks. we could get the room right away and we had a nice rest. but unfortunately the AC wasn't running very well so we've got an upgrade superior room. absolute beautiful with a large balcony overlooking the garden. i want to thanks all the GB staff for our perfect stay and i will recommend everyone to stay at this wonderful 5stars hotel. it's a small paradise in siem reap and we will come back for sure!

Room Tip: best for the superior room just for a few $ more !
