Khmer Heritage from the road seems like it might be a nice place. It's across the street from Lake Srah Srang, conveniently located in Angkor's World Heritage Site. Oh how looks can be deceiving. The restaurants only clientele seem to be giant tour groups, held hostage and made to eat terrible food for expensive prepaid prices, which stands to reason since nobody else (except us apparently) would go there.
The place is huge, full of gigantic tour groups, noisy, and has terrible food and service, all for a premium price of about 3 times what you'd pay in most other restaurants in Siem Reap. We ordered Lok Lak, a Cambodian beef dish that we'd had several times in Cambodia already - always tasty - not now. The beef (if it was beef, I'm not sure) was so tough, so grisly, you couldn't even chew it. The normally tasty marinade was just gooped on sweet and sour sauce. One bite, and we sent it back. We also ordered a shrimp Cambodian dish, and the shrimp was so old that it almost disintegrated in my mouth, totally disgusting, all mealy and stuff. One bite, sent it back. Starving, we decided to hope for the best and order a French duck dish. We waited for about 30 minutes before asking where our food was, then they miraculously came out with it about 2 seconds later - it had obviously been sitting there getting cold for a while and they had forgotten about it. The duck wasn't duck - tasted like Turkey - though the mango salsa was actually pretty good. Of course, when it came time to pay, even though we had taken only one bite from the first two awful dishes, we were charged in full for both.
The bathrooms are the most interesting feature here - they are unisex, and the urinals are basically outside - as you walk by you see guys standing there doing their business. I was standing there doing mine, and suddenly ladies started popping out of the stalls right next to me (with no privacy walls of course). Very odd.
This is one of the most NOT recommended restaurants I've visited in a long, long time.
