“Wow how this has grown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

Having visited this some 10 years ago, I was shocked at how big the shop had become and the number of customers. I was the only one there 10 years ago and my initial thoughts were that it was a tourist trap....but every time I have visited Cambodia I have left with an item or two to decorate my home. This time I purchased a number of pieces of clothing for my wife and while more pricy than what you would buy elsewhere in SR, they are great quality and what you would expect from a good boutique in Australia. They have some excellent large stone carvings and if I was not renovating my house this year, would have taken advantage of their free shipping offer.

Take the tour of the artist producing their works its wonderful to see skills such as these being used to help the local economy.

“Artisans d'Angkor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

This was a fantastic surprise which we stumbled across when exploring Siem Reap when we first arrived. A well organised collection of local traders/manufacturers offering a wide selection of goods which were ideal for gifts and souvenirs. There was also an area selling local food and drinks.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

Absolutely wished we missed this one today. While there are some obviously gifted artists working at this shop we saw no one who was "visibly disabled". There was a wall presentation about hearing impaired sign language but all the artists we saw were either wearing music headsets or laughing and talking with their coworkers.
We do realize financially most Cambodians are struggling and are glad to consider their crafts for purchase but please be honest about what you are selling. Assigned guide at door made us feel like we were getting a heavy presentation for donations and even his tip at the end of his ten minute tour. Store at end of tour was loaded with top quality crafts with top prices -- some not even made on site that we could see, ie. fabric pieces, clothing, handbags.

First, we would like to thank you for your feedback on your visit of our workshops in Siem Reap, and truly feel sorry about your disappointment.

We would like to mention that we do not advertise our place as an association dedicated only for people with disabilities. Our organization aims at reviving Khmer craftsmanship and at promoting at the same time fair working conditions without any discrimination of our employees.

Artisans Angkor complies with Cambodian laws concerning the percentage of disabled employees. It is normally about 2%, but we actually employ more than 4%.
Artisans working here are not chosen according to their disabilities but because of their talent which ensures excellent quality of their work.
Some of our workshops open to the public such a silk painting , lacquering, do employ several employees who are hear impaired and mute, and who received an adapted training thanks to our partnership with the NGO "Krousar Thmey" which specializes in those disabilities.

Also, we want to clarify that Artisans Angkor employs than 900 craftsmen and women dispatched in 48 workshops. Most of those are not open to the tourists to guarantee their privacy. Thus, as you said in your comment, some products like clothing and handbags are not produced in the workshops you saw, but at the Angkor silk farm which can also be visited.

We hope those explanations could help you understand more clearly what kind of actions we do and what are our values. We also hope you will keep a great memory from your visit in Cambodia.

Bests regards,

Artisans Angkor team

“A noble way to help preserve Angkor's arts and culture”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

Learn much about the techniques of weaving textile, carving wood, bossing silver and painting lacquer among others in this institution established to help preserve the artisanal crafts of Cambodia.Spend an hour or two going through the training rooms where you can see for yourself young men and women being trained in the different artisanal crafts while a guide explains to you the work being done (either in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and German). Entry is free of charge. Drop by the gift shop and buy products of the institute that helps to finance its operations.

“Well worth a visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

Got to watch artists at work crafting beautiful pieces from wood, silk, sandstone, and lacquerware in a workshop setting. There is no charge to tour their workshop, and you can browse their shop brimming with finished products for sale!
