Excellent little boutique hotel not far from night markets and Pub Street. Staff speak limited but good english and manger Tommy speaks english well. Extremely polite and attentive, nothing was too much trouble, good suggestions re tours and sights and prompt response to queries or problems. Highly recommend others to stay here. Very relaxed atmosphere. Golden Banana also are involved with Green Gecko organization, assisting street kids and kids from abusive families. Our driver Din (James Dean) was excellent and we used him for the duration of our stay. Food was delicious. We give Golden Banana 10/10.

The Golden Banana is situated away from the crowd of hotels that line airport road and the road to Angkor Wat. The area, in the eastern part of town across the river from the main part of Siem Reap, is a little unprepossessing since both roads that lead to Golden Banana Lane are unsurfaced and lined by small shops. Although Golden Banana Lane is a narrow paved alley, there was never any feeling of insecurity; in fact, all of Siem Reap seems very laid back. The hotel consists of several separate villas along the lane. Each part has an entrance area leading to a courtyard with tropical foliage and a crystal-clear salt water pool with water cascading into it. Our room (Eucalyptus) was large with a comfortable platform bed, shower room, minibar and safe. There were stairs onto a roof balcony overlooking the courtyard and pool. On this balcony were a huge bath and another shower along with chaise longues. We did not use the bath/shower on the roof and did not see anyone else using them either. The hotel staff is very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is taken by the pool and, since the hotel is quite small, is not the usual buffet that we experienced at other similar hotels. They cook eggs to order and offer a series of breakfasts (e.g. croissant, baguette, fruit, yogurt etc). The hotel bills itself as gay friendly but most people there seemed to be couples/families. The hotel has free wifi. In all, The Golden Banana is an excellent, small hotel. Highly recommended.
Nearby is the Art Market which is the best place in Siem Reap for souvenirs. An excellent choice for dinner was Bopha which is on the same side of the river as the hotel and thus away from the crowds. It has a lovely outdoor garden and also covered seating. The food was quite expensive by Cambodian standards but very good. The lemongrass soup and several of the fish dishes were excellent. Also the service was very attentive but not overbearing. For take-out sandwiches and pastries, we found the Blue Pumpkin in the center of town to be excellent. They also serve breakfast.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms by the pool are excellent

This hotel is well placed being only a 5 minute walk to the main shopping/bars/restaurants. To reach this area you pass through the arts market which sells a variety of goods if you are looking for souvenirs.

The hotel is a retreat from the bustle of the town and set around a good sized pool with lots of lovely greenery giving a cool, calm impression. We had a room on the second floor which had many windows and was flooded with light, a wonderful balcony with outside bath/shower and two cane beds to relax on. The breakfasts were great and although offering a choice of 3 types they were happy to provide a mixture of what you want and how you wished it to be cooked.

As ever we had a problem with the room safe and the staff were very patient helping us, but good to know weren't totally inept as there was a battery problem which was causing our difficulties!

The hotel is described as gay friendly and there were more gay couples than heterosexual ones during our stay but that certainly was not a negative point for us. We would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone else.

We arrived by bus from Phnom Penh and the tuk tuk driver who took us from the bus station to the hotel offered his services for our various temple trips during our stay. He was fantastic, he was very informative, very helpful, and gave us a great insight into the life of a Cambodian who had lived through the Khmer Rouge regime. His costs were similar to those offered by the hotel and he kindly provided us with wonderful snacks and water on our day trips. He gave me his contact details and I would be happy to pass these on to anyone.

Room Tip: Many of the rooms are above ground level and reached via quite steep stairs, so if stair climbing is...

I have traveled se asia a lot in the last few years, all for more holiday than business, and this is the place that instantly puts me in vacation mode. This is my second stay here this year and there are nothing but good things to stay. The resort itself is conveniet (5 minute walk) to the downtown shopping and dining area or siem reap, though I usually spend just as much time lounging around the hotel. The rooms are comfortable, clean and very well maintained, as are the rest of the resort. The pool is cool saltwater that is perfect after a long day of touring the angkor wat temples, or a great place to lounge and read a book for the day. The food at the hotel is quite delicious and has a nice variety on the menu, and custom cocktails (note the photo of my stoli with watermelon, are unique and refreshing. The staff are all smiles, friendly, helpful and always trying to give the best service possible. A special thanks to my friends Lei, Sarak, David and Hang, who always make my day filled with laughs and smiles. And Tommy is always attentive to guest requests as well as a pleasure to chat with at the bar. If youre coming to siem reap this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: I always stay in the deluxe suite, it is perfect for two people and a value for the size of the room...

This place was recommended to us by a friend, and we were very glad that we went. My partner and I went to stay in May. We contacted them beforehand and arranged for a tuk tuk driver to meet us from the bus. We stayed for 4 days; it's a lovely hotel, the staff were really friendly and we tried out some of the food which was all great. It's in a good location, just a short walk away from the market and the main town centre. We arranged our tour to the temples through the hotel and all went smoothly. I'd definitely recommend this place.

I stayed with 4 of my girlfriends here in January this year. We stayed four nights and absolutely loved it! It was a great place to be able to come back to after a busy/hot day exploring the town or the temples. The people were very friendly. Food delicious and amazing mango daiquiris. The room was very comfortable and cleaned every day with a lovely little balcony overlooking the pool. Loved it
