“great tourist trap ”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

A lot of poor people that live on the floating house because don't have money to pay for your house. there is a lot of people asking for money... they know speak just "one dollar, one dollar!!!" it's sooooo sad! where the boat park there is some small crocodile inside the jail and the sunset there is nothing special! I really don't recommend for anyone

“Scambodia!! don't support it!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

It's a a bit scam! it's quit interesting to see, but it's a big scam! As in previous post.. the price, the rice, the alligator farm, one big scam. don't even think that the money goes to the people living there, they are just being used for mastourism, try to go to a more private boat ride compagny to see the real thing!

“All kinds of bad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

This trip was all kinds of bad. Was recommended by our driver so we thought we'd give it a try having not read anything - BAD idea.

1. $30 US each for the boat.
2. boat ride in a polluted river encouraging you to take pics of what if pretty much someone's house while they're living there.
3. Watching kids torment some snakes at the floating restaurant.
4. Big scam to take you to the orphan school and buy the most overpriced bag of rice to "donate". Had the hide to complain when we bought the $20 overpriced noodles.
5. Ask for a big tip at the end of it all.

Really put a dampener on our day. My own fault for not checking it out beforehand.

“Something is wrong here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

We decided to go to one of the floating villages around the Siemens Reap area. We checked a few agencies but we decided to just go on our own with a tuctuc driver. We drove to the place where the tickets got sold and we immediately got a bit worried about the price for the ticket (like everyone else seems to be). Therefore we went for a walk to see if there were anther companies or private people offering us the boat ride. But of course the road is blocked and guarded by the police if you try to get your way to the other side. Which leaves you with only to possible options: pay the ridiculously high ticket price, or leave the terrible place. We did the last thing, and coming back to read these reviews we don't regret for skipping it. The way they control this sight is just hopeless. If you want to be a more responsible tourist, and be less supportive to this mafia-like business, do something else then this.

After we decided to return without the boat ride our tuctuc driver still charged us for the same price as if we were to go to the boat trip. We tried to negotiate and explained to him that this whole thing was a total disgrace, but we ended up paying the same to him even if the the whole trip took 1/3 of the time we agreed on beforehand. So if you want to do this without the agency, make sure you do more research about the place before you leave, cause you can't trust the people who is somehow involved in this tourist sight.

“Life on a boat, a thought provoking experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

Tonle sap is the largest sweet water lake in south east asia. There are people staying in boats in this lake and one can get a glimpse into their lifestyle while taking a boat ride. These life frames can be a moving experience or just a casual viewing, whichever you may choose.

One can visit this lake from Siem reap by tuk tuk or a taxi. Boat rides are available from the pier at $20 per person and of 1-1.5 hrs duration. It is advisable to go in the late afternoon/ at dusk.
