“Lovely Room, Good Food, Caring Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Stayed here for several nights in October. Our fantastic guide was John, who knocked himself out to make certain we got the best animal viewing possible. Seeing that I was elderly by comparison to the others in the group I felt he was looking out for me at all times. We had a comfortable room on the second floor with a lovely view and the meals were varied and delicious. One morning I woke up with what could have been a serious eye problem. The staff hastily made an appointment with the one doctor in town and insisted on driving me. Worried that the eye was getting worse I decided to leave the group and return to Canada early but without a letter from the doctor my insurance would not cover me. The staff called the doctor (on a Saturday), and he agreed to see me and give me the letter I required. This was service over and above -- the kind of thing that takes people back. I definitely recommend The Garden Lodge is you are planning to be in the area.

Stayed here for three days on safari. The safaris from the lodge (our guide was John) were first class, John knew all the places to go for the best photographic opportunities, really lucky to see leopard from the river.
Our room was fine, not over the top but comfortable after a hard day hunting!
Breakfast and lunch were buffet style and adequet, dinner was set menu and beautifully presented but a bit hit and miss.
Overall I would stay at this lodge again, the staff were really friendly and the safari experiences far outweigh any niggles at the lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden and towards the river

The Garden Lodge is a small beautiful lodge with excellent staff and service. Although I found the lodge overpriced for the lodging provided, the service and hospitality was first rate. The lodge is more geared to groups or couples rather the solo traveler I found. The menu offered is innovative and very good - balanced with healthy sides and meat dishes. The information and generosity f the staff is fantastic. The boat cruise and guide were fantastic - wildlife abounds in this area.

Room Tip: Some rooms face or are adjacent to the dining area so can be loud if you want an early nights rest...

If you go want to visit the Chobe National Park at Kasane, Botswana, you can avoid all the other big, super luxurious places..... This one is a friendly, nice small place, with very comfortable rooms, overlooking a garden where at nights the hippos roam......
It is just by the river, and the guide, Innocent, is just totally the best to take you on a game drive to the Chobe NP AND on a sundowner on the river Chobe, where you can see elephants taking a swim at sundown or where herds cross the river from one side to the other.
The staff managing it are very efficient and competent, very friendly, always at hand to give advise, assistance. Meals are taken at one big long table with other travellers, a way to meet interesting people and get good travel tips. Food is extremely good. Before the sundowner starts, they serve coffee abd a very very good fresh cake. On the boat, Innocent serves you chilled drinks.

Room Tip: Take a room downstairs, they are not noisy at all, on top you could have noise from the village we w...

Don't get us wrong, the property is really nice, the rooms likeable, the garden and the view lovely, but we found the hosts to be unbalanced: the husband was very friendly and likeable whilst the wife seemed to be in a bad mood every time we met her. We liked the fact that we got to eat with different memeber of the staff in the evening, that was fun and we have enjoyed the company, some more, some less. The quality of the food was not balanced, the first evening everything was delicious and the portions so large we wanted to tell the hosts to make them smaller, but the other two evenings we were not that happy at all, the food was rather bland and the desserts very disappointing. We came to Africa to experience some local food, not typical european dishes. The brekkie and the noon meal were both nice, lots of stuff to chose from, lovely bread, fatcakes and mango jam. the safaris were good, we enjoyed the one on the truck much more then the one on the boat, but perhaps we came in the wrong season. However, there was one thing which we found very, very rude: every single drop of water, even the stuff you consumed on the safari we had to pay for and that amounted to about 30 Euros per head per day. Considering how much one pays to stay at the property we find that way too expensive. It would have been at least corteous to place at least one free bottle of water in the room, especially as the tap water was not drinkable-it was in fact totally yellow and advise the guests to at least get their own watter. Also, we could not just get a glass of wine, but would always get a pitcher which was sometimes too much for us-we could not finish it and we had to pay for it nevertheless, not like in one beuatiful Namibian camp where they opened a bottle of wine for us the first evening and we have finished it through three days. The nature is beautiful in Botswana, there are loads of animals, but I feel they still have a lot to learn from Namibia.

We had stayed in different Botswana lodges before BUT this one beat them all. We could not fault the welcome, the staff, the facilities or the atmosphere.

Everything about the Garden Lodge is done totally for the comfort and wellbeing of the guests. Nothing is too much trouble. Every wish is taken care of from being picked up at the airport, appreciating food likes and dislikes to washing and pressing your laundry within a day.

Our two nights at the 3 Baobabs tented bush camp was totally different. While all the home comforts and attention to our every need was there, it was a completely new experience for us and we loved every minute. It was complete luxury, even to having a hot bath run for us on our return from Savuti game reserve. One tip - as there is no mains electricity take a torch and charge all batteries before you go.

We would not hesitate to recommend these two places and personally hope to go again.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have a super view down the garden and across the Chobe river. Our room had a doub...

We spent 6 nights at this Lodge, with 2 of them at the Three Baobabs, their bush tented camp. There were two couples in our party. From the minute we arrived the holiday really started. The accommodation was excellent. We were in Room 4 and the views down the garden and over the river were spectacular. Sitting on our balcony and watching the sun go down was amazing. The staff were very professional but in a relaxed way that made everyone feel welcome and at home. It's a small lodge with only 8 bedrooms and that made it all the more homely. The choice of food at breakfast was very varied with cereal, fruit juice, continental and full English - what more could we ask. Dinner was a set meal but the staff were more than happy to provide you with something else. Everyone was asked their likes and dislikes.

The Game drive and boat cruises were very efficiently run but with the lodge being small, all felt very personal and tailored to suit you. Our main guide was John whose knowledge was excellent. The other guide was called Innocent and he too knew everything he was asked about the game and the birds.

I can't recommend this place highly enough and would encourage people visiting Kasane who don't want an impersonal big block of rooms to try the Garden Lodge - you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the garden and river but try for the first floor, there are 3 rooms.
