3 weird nights booked with Meals & 2 activities per day making it the most expensive of any accommodation of our 3 weeks in Namibia/Botswana. Loud bars, Guard dogs Barking, then Pre-Dawn traffic define the night. The Lodge was built 10+ years ago and has been sorely neglected. The beds & bedding need replacing and the Bathroom was downright scary & weird. I needed a flashlight to take a shower, which is built into sort of a broom closet thing. The window from the toilet opens into the main hallway NO PRIVACY! Every morning the hallway floor had water from somewhere, and twice I saw what that looked like rodent feces next to it. The weird part was they had a whole row of woven baskets lined up to try to hide it. I don’t want to think about what was under those things, but each day after breakfast it was mopped up and the baskets rearranged. They appeared to have some hierarchy within the staff that was just distasteful, the people actually working were clearly at the bottom of this pecking order and it didn’t go unnoticed. As if all of that wasn’t enough the worst was the bazar Tag Teaming by the staff. If you were spotted alone anywhere in the lodge they would take turns sitting with you making small talk till another`Guide´showed up, you can only take this for so long. We were NEVER left alone unless we were in our room and with that weird window I wonder about even that. Meals were the worst, the Food was OK, but not one time could we visit with each other. Dinners were so controlled, and scripted when the food was served no one could eat, or talk until `House Lady´ announced what and when you could eat, demanding quiet before she did so. They actually tried to separate us one evening so the guide assigned to us could sit in the middle of the table, interrupting the rather nice conversation we had started with another couple. If you want to talk with other guests or pray tell with your own family forget it. We would have gone elsewhere to eat the last night but without a car it was difficult, Kasane was not the kind of town to strike out on your own in the evening without your own transport (Razor wire being very popular). By the end of 3 nights we were all glad to leave. Positives – 1) Afternoon Boat rides into Chobe NP were wonderful, on a small boat with a pleasant knowledgeable guide. 2) The Staff really did try to make you comfortable.
