1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2010

Acceptable for an overnight stay, however there is a weakness for customer service all round, from the check in staff through to the resautraunt and the poor quality room cleanliness.

We stayed for 3 nights and did all the game drives and cruises. Saw plenty of game including a pride of lions, with the male attacking / reprimanding the female. The cruise boat driver was a bit quiet and didn't offer too much information on the various game and birds, but it didn't spoil our trip.
The rooms were fine - clean, spacious and ample for us (2 adults and a 10 year old). As most of the other reviews, our AC also dripped onto the bed, but we coped and lived with it - it wasn't a major irritation.

The staff were fine - a mixture of some friendly and less friendly people - mostly helpful.

The food was excellent, especially the breakfasts. All meals were fresh and tasty - a huge improvement from our previous 2 nights at the Kingdom in Vic. Falls.

Our only negative comment is the outside areas need to be maintained. Some of the timber decks and handrails are a bit neglected and the pool area needs a revamp.

Otherwise - very good.

We spent two nights at Chobe and came away disappointed. As has been mentioned by later reviews, our a/c unit leaked over the bedding/tables which during the night was like a water torture. The heat of the day, 38deg.C, meant that the a/c cooling was essential. The rooms were adequate but rather cramped compared to the chalets alongside the river. Food at breakfast was average and service acceptable with evening dinner dishes being repeated even during our short stay. The reception staff were rather unhelpful with currency exchange only holding a 'petty cash float' and we had to visit the local town bank (only a 10 min. walk but a 20 min. queue). Game drives were fortunately of a better standard especially the boat safari with plenty of wildlife in close proximity. Fellow travellers told us of better accomodation nearby if a future visit was planned.

Stayed for two nights as part of a group tour to Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. When we got to our room the air conditioning unit was leaking all over the bedside table and bed. Left them to fix it while we went on an afternoon boat trip. Arrived back to find air conditioning unit had been repaired and bedding changed. However, the mattress had just been flipped over, hence the bottom of the bed was still wet and had soaked all of the fresh bedding. Moved to a different room only to find bits of plaster all over the bathroom floor and a huge damp patch on the bathroom ceiling. Eventually given a three-bedroomed chalet, which was fine. Pleasant gardens and a lovely view on to the river. Warthogs running freely through the gardens, which was great fun. Food was poor. Same dishes served at lunchtime and dinner. Meat was tough and very chewy. The whole place was understaffed. The barman running the pool bar also had to serve in the dining room, so if you wanted a drink by the pool while lunch was being served - tough! Plates were not cleared away from the tables quickly (sometimes not at all throughout the whole meal) Some staff (not all) were lazy and rude with a 'couldn't care less' attitude, particularly the female members of staff in the bar and dining room. Plenty of wildlife seen on game drives and boat trips. However, the boats get far too close when the elephants are crossing the river and made them uneasy. When anything interesting is spotted on the game drives, the whole thing descends into a free-for-all with little regard for the animals. This was the worst place we stayed on the whole tour. Would like to see more of Botswana, but not Chobe and definitely not Chobe Marina Lodge. Mass tourism at its worst!

The room we had was lovely with large lounge/kitchen area, separate bedroom and large bathroom and a balcony looking out on to the river, all very well appointed and spotlessly clean. Unfortunately we didn't have electricity or water for most of our stay, this is Africa and these things happen but there was no communication from the management as to what the situation was for the duration of the stay (3 days). The staff in the hotel have to be the most rude and disinterested bunch I have ever come across working in a hotel and unfortunately did not make for an enjoyable stay, which is a shame because the hotel itself is lovely. We had an all inclusive rate including the buffet meals, the food was also very disappointing.

We enjoyed Chobe Marina Lodge. Our room was huge, with a kitchen area, dining area, living room, bedroom and large bathroom. This is more like a hotel than a lodge and it is in a town, not in the bush ,but it is very close to Chobe Park by vehicle for game drives and they also offer on site river cruises where we saw lots of elephant, hippos, lechwe, crocodiles among others. The food was good, the restaurant upstairs is very nice. I would recommend the side trip to Namibia to visit the village, but only if you really like to walk. They told us, me and my 81 year old mother, that it was only a bit of walking and it turned out to be miles, I did enjoy seeing the village and its people, though.

The Chobe Marina Lodge is a real jewel. Stayed for two nights, but wish we had booked for longer. The evening cruises and game drives were awesome. I don't know how you could see more wildlife. On the early morning drive we saw two lions hunting impala and on the evening drive we were lucky enough to see a leopard hunting warthogs. Lets not forget the hundreds of elephants, hippo's, giraffes, crocs, impala's, warthogs, etc. An amazing place. Food was great and the staff fantastic.
