“Beautiful cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

White washed adobe topped with tiled domes. We were there for the Virgen de Candelaria festival and the parade around the plaza seeing the reverence of some of the older women as the virgen passed by was moving in a way i hadnt expected.

“Quite the ceremonial display!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

Fully packed church, very nice and ornate. Outside is quite the zoo as people line up to have their cars/trucks blessed by local priests. Many flower kiosks and religious trinkets also in mass quantities!!!

“Make sure you visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

The church is interesting in the way it is laid out having a mosque influence (based on southern Spain where there is an Arabic influence). Our guide provided a good explanation of the figures outside the church as well as the engravings around the door but perhaps the biggest surprise to me when entering the church from the main courtyard was that we had actually entered the church through a side door, slightly contradictory from viewing the building when entering the courtyard. As the previous reviewer has remarked, it is interesting to see the cars waiting outside to be blessed as well as all the side stalls with their goods to be purchased to help in the blessing ceremony.

“Sunday fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

The Cathedral itself is cool architecturally, but the most interesting part is seeing folks come and make alters and bless their cars--this all involves beautiful flower arrangements and drinking. Try to come on Sundays or other festivals to check it out.

“Important part of Copacabana history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

This sizeable church has an interesting story and is worth a visit while in Copacabana. Everything is within walking distance. Likely that you can see a priest bless a car or too as well.
