“Fantastic fortnight”

Caye Chapel Island Resort

We stayed the Thanksgiving week. On our first day we were the only 2 on the island! By day 5 the resort was almost at capacity (35 people for Thanksgiving dinner). Weather was variable with a couple of days with some heavy rain.

The golf course was stunning. Difficult (worth its 140 slope), but a very relaxed way to play the game. Even at capacity on the resort and with visitors, we only met up with another group on the course once! We lost too many balls to admit to but were very pleasantly surprised to find replacements at the same price as US mainland.

Service was exemplary. All the reviews about Katie and her team are right. We only had to mention something for it to arrive within a few minutes whether we were at the pool, on the beach or in our room! All the trips, tours and excursions were expertly run by island staff and other locals who know the area like the back of their hand, so we got to see the best snorkling, and the best local sights too.

The accomodation and equipment was almost all new and in great condition. The food was superb, and, although the formal menu is limited, everyone on the staff were so flexible, there was always a way to find something we wanted to eat.

The reviewer who wrote about the biting flies that attack late afternoon got their advice right though - take industrial strength repellant, or stay out of their way!

All round we had a fantastic time - we would recommend Caye Chapel to anyone, but especially to golfers who like a challenge.

“Perfect”

Caye Chapel Island Resort

We spent 6 days in Caye Chapel, during the month of October for our Honeymoon. The only word that can describe our stay was perfect. The entire experience was priceless. The staff is top notch, the food was always great ( try the fish and chip for lunch), you cant go wrong with anything on the menu. We did a day trip of Cave tubing, Zip lining and Mayan ruins, it was a long day but worth it, Carlos the tour guide was GREAT..We did leave paradise to see what the biggest Caye had to offer, and to say the least we couldn't wait to get back to Caye Chapel. Next time we return we wont leave Caye Chapel until our plane comes to take us home. If you are looking for a true private-relaxing vacation you will not be dissappointed. Daniel the boat captain is great, we fished off the pier at night and he had our refridgerator stocked with bait every night when we returned from dinner, Ahmin is wonderful, he will take care of everything you need, he is always around even if you dont see him. I could go on and on about this place, we have yet to quit talking about it and are already looking in to returning for our anniversary..Typical day.
Breakfast around 8:30am, play 18 holes, relax by the pool till about 3:30pm have lunch brought to the pool and head back to play another 18 holes, back in the pool by about 5:30 and relaxed there for about an hour, headed to our villa to get ready for dinner from about 7-9pm and then it was off for some pier fishing..
All in all we cant wait to get back.

We were at Caye Chapel for 9 days Feb. 2007. All reviews so far are correct: beautiful, warm, good golf, etc. But. you have to sign a crocodile waver when you arrive. Ok, we felt they were on the golf course. That is, until a fisherman pulled one out of the water 20 feet out from our villa. Our conclusion: no Caribbean swimming.
In addition we were eaten up alive by no-see-ums, or something like it. Started on golf course, and ended up by the pool and on the beach. One of our party needed a lot of Benadryl. I've been thinking about this for a while and was reluctant to break the bubble, but this is not an inexpensive resort.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at Caye Chapel, and it was absolutely fantastic. Our villa (#4) was incredibly spacious, and although it was just the two of us, the second master bedroom came in handy - when a bird flew in in the middle of the night (stepped out for some air), we just relocated down stairs until someone on the staff succeeded in shooing it out. October is considered off season, and we did get rain every day. But, it never rained before 6 pm, by which point we had done all of our outdoor activities, so we didn't mind one bit. In addition, the bad weather scared off everyone else - there was only one other couple on the island while we were there, so we felt like it was all ours, really. The food was consistently good, and Ric, our waiter, was fantastic. Katie was incredibly helpful, and was always prepared, be it protein snacks for my husband, snorkeling gear, or bug spray. The island was fun to explore in a golf cart, and there is a reef right outside of villa 10 that we snorkeled at, no need for a boat, and all equipment provided. Just walk into the water! I really liked not having to have a wallet around, not having to tip, and knowing that things like wine, bottled water and cocktails were very reasonably priced. Cocktails about $9, most wine ranging in the $40s. My husband and I loved Caye Chapel, and plan on coming back. There were only two somewhat related inconveniences. One, the bugs. Perhaps the rain brought them on, but they were merciless. The second was that there is no place on the island where its ok smoke indoors, and so the bugs made it absolutely impossible for my husband to enjoy a cigar.
The soundness of the buildings, bathrooms/jaccuzzis/pool, air conditioning, all equipment very pleasantly surprised me. Everything is new, quality, and well made. This wasn't just stuff that looks good in pictures, but when you get there is all shabby and out of order, this was a truly well maintained, luxurious resort. Everything was new, in great condition and constantly maintained.
We went to one other island to try diving lessons, and the difference is night and day. Throngs of 19-year-old backpackers with horrendous sunburns, trash all over the beach, stray dogs. Maybe when I was 19, with a group of friends it would be fun, but for a honeymoon, what little I saw of the other island was not acceptable. I am really happy with my decision to spend my honeymoon at Caye Chapel, my husband loved it, and we can't wait to come back. If you are looking for time to yourselves and a leisurely pace, this is it.

“Perfect Stay”

Caye Chapel Island Resort

My wife and I stayed 9 nights at this resort without any single problem.
A few comments:
1) Katie and all the hotel staff members: friendly, anything you need just # 9 and Katie will take care of what you need in less tha 1/2 an hour.
2) We were at beach front Villa # 4, great: 2 suite bedrooms, large living room with and kitchen. The price was 700 USD + 25% (taxes and tips), not cheap but great value for money.
3) Golf course (18 Hole): Perfect condition, very difficult, you will find water in almost all the holes, windy, etc. My handicap is 6.2 and sometimes I founded the golf course very difficult. Almost a troop take care of the golf course and probably they will be the only people that you will see during your round. Of course, no tee time is necessary, you are playing in an almost private golf course. Be aware of the amount of golf balls that you will lost, but no problem ask Katie and she will give you a set of 12 balls at the price of USD12.
4) Food: We had BLD @ 75USD person/day. Menus were large, nice food.
Enjoy your stay and do not carry your golf bags with you, not necessary. Katie will place a golf bag in your golf cart while you have breakfast.
