“Best Location for a Retreat Ever!”

I've run numerous small (5-15 participants) writing retreats at various inns and hotels around the country. My most recent 3-day event at the Highland Lake Inn was exceptional, fulfilling the expectations of a "retreat" in every way. The accommodations were luxurious yet homey. Each room was spacious and spotless, repleat with fluffy bedding, TV sets, lovely amenities, and comfortable working spaces. We felt pampered from the first sip of delicious coffee in the morning to the incredible dinner our hosts invited us to share with them in the evening. Equally important, the Highland Lake Inn afforded our writing group the privacy and space we needed to meet and/or write individually. Last, but hardly least, our hosts Pecco and Gail were fantastic! This is where I intend to host many more writing retreats in the future!

“I become nostalgic writing this”

Stayed at Highland Lake Inn last October with Sally. Recalling that trip and writing this note makes me want to return. Pecco and Gail were so gracious and interesting, you couldn't imagine better hosts. The old house was beautiful, with just the right amount of modern upgrades to make it very comfortable without losing any of its original charm. Besides wonderful breakfasts, there was the optional dinner courtesy of Pecco, trained as a chef in Europe. Delicious, with interesting dinner companions from many distant locations. Rural New Hampshire is like another (better) planet. It was just starting to get cold, and we new the beautiful first snowfall was coming soon, but we had to leave. Highly recommended.

“Personally committed innkeepers”

Gail's schedule permitted only a few, but warm moments. Pecco, on the otherhand, was not only welcoming but completely committed to our stay and chatty! He was a delight to talk to and made our stay even more pleasant -- including a perfect reservation at a solid local restaurant. The room was very comfortable highlighted by Pecco's weak spot for superior bed linens -- extremely soft and fresh! Breakfast was good -- Pecco has some chef credentials but everyone only wanted scrambled eggs, so I don't think we gave him a deserving challenge. Next time! Middle October in NH; you can imagine the color of the leaves and the inn sits at the top of a small hill on MAPLE lane -- which of course you take when you leave the inn, completely bathed in the brilliance of reds and oranges highlighted by the morning sun. Excellent. Good stop!

“I would definitely go back!”

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing and beautiful getaway to enjoy the fall colors in NH this October, and we were really glad to have stayed at The Highland Lake Inn B&B in Andover. Pecco and Gail are charming hosts, helping us right from directions from the freeway where we were stuck on Friday evening - the alternate route was so much faster! (Bad GPS, bad bad GPS!) They also made sure we were comfortable throughout, as well as providing great tips on where to drive to see the best foliage and where to Shop! The dogs Niki and Jeter are an absolute joy, very friendly and well behaved- if you, like me, enjoy petting and playing with dogs, you are in for a treat!

Do not miss driving up the road on Maple street from the Inn for great views of the lake as well as foliage, depending on what time of year you travel. The White Mountains are a short drive away and there are hike trails to enjoy around.

We would highly recommend a stay here, and look forward to going back ourselves.

“What a Great Team!!”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the at Highland Lake Inn. The creature comforts of accomodation and good food easily met with our approval. What impressed most though, were the endearing and lively personalities of the hosts, Gail and Pecco. Very professional, and the table conversations were always so interesting, with an added slice of humor. A wonderful vacation experience.
