Normally, I try and avoid Applebee's restaurants like the plague. I find the food not very good, and over-priced. We've eaten at the Austin location several times though: my husband occasionally is given gift cards to Applebee's from his employers. He recently got another one, so rather than have it go to waste he and I decided to eat lunch here today.
I ordered the three cheese penne pasta meal, which is basically pasta with cheese sauce and pieces of chicken in it. I ordered this dish on our last visit a year ago, and was disappointed: the pasta barely had any sauce on it, and there were only three teeny tiny pieces of chicken. This visit the meal was so much better. Lots of cheese sauce on the pasta, and many little pieces of chicken.
For dessert, we ordered the pecan blondie. It's so good! A warm pecan brownie-type bar served with vanilla ice cream on top. They give you this cream stuff to pour over it all (or they'll pour it on for you if you prefer). I was stuffed from the pasta, but still managed to eat most of the blondie dessert.
The wait staff was excellent; very attentive but not over-bearing. Our meal today was so much better than past visits that I wonder if possibly the restaurant is under new management or something.
