My family and I stayed at this resort for a business conference I was attending. I have to admit that I was a bit shocked. On a previous visit at this property, we had a wonderful room/suite that had recently been re-done and was well maintained. On this recent visit, we stayed in a different part of the resort, and found our room to be depressing and dismal. From peeling wallpaper and "bubbled" carpet to a cramped bathroom space, I couldn't believe the difference in the two rooms. Certainly, a few years had passed between stays, but I'm not convinced that this was purely an issue of things running down terribly between visits.

Still, the resort is in a great lakefront location, with nice facilities for a family getaway. Just be careful when booking a room, and don't hesitate to ask for a room change if you encounter a less-than-desirable room. Had the resort not been completely booked when we were there, we certainly would have done so.

We had a special birthday celebration weekend at Arrowwood that was relaxing. The grounds are maintained beautifully. The room was updated and had two queen beds; my son liked the desk so he could be on the computer or in the chair reading.

One review mentions the long walk to the room and that is very true, it is long walk from the front desk to the rooms. Remember that when bringing your things in. When we left we parked closer to the water park door and wheeled our stuff out on a cart. It’s on a sloped tier level so the rooms can face Lake Darling. The balcony /decks make the best use of this.

The water park was fine for us. We have been to several and this one, good size, smaller than some but bigger than others. We don’t need to have the super big parks and different slides. I liked the hot tub and the lazy river. One good thing is the separate pool on another floor, in case you don’t want to be in the waterpark.

We sat on the balcony having coffee in the mornings and enjoyed a light breakfast that we brought in. I loved having a fridge/microwave. We had pancakes that were frozen and kept in our fridge, strawberries, bagels and juice. We know we could have had breakfast in the dinning room, next time we might have to try that for brunch. We went out for dinner one night to Doolittles (superb) and later back in our room had cake and ice cream. Later we were back and spent time in the waterpark and hot tub. Around the area we went to the Carlos Creek winery, just down the road and picked up a bottle of wine.

I said "mixed bag" because it really was! Our original reservation was for a kids room...but when we went down to look at it we were really taken aback. The "older" area was very dingy, dirty, and must have been a bit moldy as my allergies were flaring up right away!

In the room the kids bunk was broken on top and the drain in the shower was dirty and gross.

The service at the front desk was a mixed bag as well. One person in particular did respond to our issues- Dustin- others not so much. Kind of felt like we were bothering them.

Dustin moved us in to a room in the new section- and it was much, much better. Still some of the same issues in the halls. every other vent on the floor was duct taped...just not the kind of thing you like to see.

Ended up getting a townhome the second night. thanks dustin... it was much nicer, of course.

Waterpark was lots of fun for my six year old, completely boring for the 15 yo. There really isn't much for kids older than maybe 11 or 12. The deepest area was four feet, I think. It was really kind of gross in spots and broken in a few sections- I bet it was pretty nice when it first opened!

If we ever stayed at the resort again (not likely), it would have to be in the townhomes. We wouldn't consider a stay in the actual hotel part again. If you aren't going to be in the room much and don't really care how it looks...the hotel is a good value.

Food was okay- nothing amazing.

It was a bit of a disappointing vacation. For what we ended up having to spend to stay the second night in a decent place...we could have gotten a great room in a more updated hotel.

We ended up here because we were visiting family in the area and most of the hotels were booked because of some event.

Despite it being quite expensive, we found this place to be a great place to stay and may consider it again in the future as a weekend getaway location from the cities.

The room's decorating was definitely dated. Our balcony, however, looked over the putting green course and the lake. Very nice view. The room was very spacious and the fridge and microwave are great if you have a family and want to pack some of your own food.

Our child (less than 2 years old) loved the waterpark. There is a zero entry pool along with a number of kiddie slides. There are also a lot of areas for older kids including three large slides, a lazy river, large hot tub, and an arcade. They also have a bar right in the pool area. The waterpark itself was way overpriced, but, you can get tickets bundled into your room package. I agree with other posters that they should consider repainting the floors of the pool. It would make the place look a lot nicer -- but, that didn't take away from the fun.

The golf course and putting courses looked nice. The place also has boat rentals and stables for horse rides.

Finally, the staff was great.

We had a family reunion with about 25 people at the hotel. The Arrowwood seems to want to be 5-star, but comes up a little short in service.

Rooms are very spacious, quality of the rooms is between that of a family hotel and a business hotel. Free wired and wireless internet is nice, housekeeping was fine. If you have long hair, bring your own shampoo as the toiletries are very minimal.

The hotel is right on a lake with a private beach, pools, a small but full-servivce marina with water-sport rentals, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, two restaurants, a golf course, a (nice!) putting course, and stables.

The hotel also feautures its own indoor water-park. This park is not huge but will keep the kids occuppied. It has many water-play areas, 3 tube slides, a small "lazy river" for tubing, and a few other attractions. Admission is apparently included in some room rates but not others, so check. It probably won't keep adults busy but is good for families.

The food was fairly good, not memorable, but competent.

Where the hotel fell short was service. Perhaps because it was the summer, the hotel hires alot of local high-school and college kids and while they mean well, they simply haven't been trained in high-end hotel service. At the restiarant, our group of 25's meals had many errors made in service, some of which were comped by way of apology, and finally a half-hour wait after dinner while the kitchen tried to figure out the bills by room number. It's not that they didn't care, they simply didn't have the professional management backing the inexperienced servers.

We also had a problem with water-park tickets that management, in my opinion, mishandled badly, leaving a few members of our large group angry at the hotel over what amounted to a half-dozen $15 tickets that nobody could get a straight answer to about why they were or were not included in various room rates. An experienced manager would have quickly handed over the tickets with an apology, even if the misunderstanding was on the guests' part (which we still don't know if it was).

In another case, the marina closed during a rainstorm, but then chose not to re-open after the brief rainstrom ended, supposedly because another rain was expected (it never materialzed). Some members of our group felt that the staff simply wanted to go home.

By way of pricing we were pleasantly surprised. While the room rates were reasonable, we've come to expect "hotel" pricing on anything in the hotel, and this was not the case - food, drink, and activity prices were in line with a non-hotel environment, so we never felt ripped off, and Minnesota is less costly than our area, so we paid much less for many things at the hotel than we would have expected.

In conclusion, it's a nice resort hotel - it's just not quite at the level that it advertises itself as being - but the price is also very reasonable for what you get.

We stayed at Arrowood for a weekend with our kids. We got a standard room which was a bit small. and it was a maze of hallways to get to the water park. Its a long walk for a small cold wet child. The water park was basically deserted the first night we were there. We had 5 lifeguards and our family of 6. I think we were pretty safe! The water park is nice but could be more exciting. The hotel room had a fridge and we brought our own food. The rooms were clean but with a family of 6 we never have enough towels no matter where we go. Arrowwood was no exception. overall it was a lot of money for a mediocre stay. Nothing specific that happened that wasbad, it just wasnt as great as it could have been.

Thank you for your comments about your stay at Arrowwood. We are happy to know you enjoyed the indoor Big Splash waterpark and felt very safe! We obviously missed the opportunity to tell you about the other great recreation opportunities at Arrowwood. We hope you visit us again and take advantage of the indoor tennis center, indoor pool and whirlpool, and visit the Camp Arrowwood building where games, arts and crafts and refreshments are available every weekend, even in the "off-season" when we are slower.

Thank you again for your comments, we hope to welcome you back to Arrowwood again soon!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel April of 2008 during their off season. We were in a spacious King bed room that had a small kitchenette, sofa area and dining/work table. We found the furniture to be really luxurious with beautiful woods and granite tops. The bed was an ornate sleigh bed and the linens and mattress were very comfortable. The bathroom was really clean and had great tilework. The property is really gorgeous and relaxing. Our room had a deck that faced the lake with a lovely view. There is a great indoor waterpark for kids. The only downfall was that our trip had changed and instead of staying two nights we could only stay one. I alerted the front desk clerk of the change when we arrived and she said that there was a strict 72 hour cancellation policy and we would be charged for the extra night. I travel full time for business and found this policy absurd. My husband ended up speaking with the manager later and she did decide not to charge us in the end. Overall we would return to this resort again.
