“Cabins are great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

The large cabin that was rented for our family was great, very spacious and relaxing. The kitchen was stocked with utensils and plates, we had an easy time finding everything and more for necessary cooking and grilling. The rooms were clean and appointed very well with proper bedding, etc.
The huge deck outside was great and spacious enough to fit a good number of guests. The lake was close by and had very easy access to the dock with a large wooden staircase. A gazebo was also close to the lake for relaxing. In some of the other reviews people mentioned the great activities, which is also true. They also had a pizza night which was really nice.

Now, for the bad. First, while the cabin was great, I don't think it was priced correctly. At $4500.00 per week you would think the boat dock/lift would be included in the rental. It wasn't. They charged a separate amount for this.

Secondly, the customer service was lacking. Upon our arrival we decided to go on a bike ride, which we remember was prominently listed on their website and review site. They had 3 adult bikes available, 2 of which had flat tires and bent rims. No big deal but if you advertise having bicycles available, you may want to actually have them on location. In asking about the bikes, one of the resort owners went into a long uninteresting explanation of how they should get new bikes anyway (which never happened the 4 days we stayed).

Another example of the customer service was the dock rental. One member of the family brought a pontoon and paid the "rental fee" for use of the lift and dock. One would think that would be included in an expensive resort rental, but it was not. One of the mornings the wind picked up and damaged the lift. The resort owner proceeded to go into a long rant/tirade about how she never saw such malfeasance or carelessness. It was normal wear and tear at best. He was charged a repair fee to the lift in addition to the normal rental fee for use of it!

Anyway, overall the resort was nice but in my opinion not worth the terrible customer service.

Our family has been going to Westridge Shores Resort almost every year for over 15 years. Erin & Eric have really strived to make it a vacation destination that our entire family looks forward to visiting. Our teenage daughter & I (Mom) love to hang out at the "craft hut" painting pottery. The organized activities, which vary from year to year, are great. Our 5 & 8 year old love hanging out at the playground and beach making new friends. Every time the kids fish off the dock they catch something. You can rent boats or bring your own & rent a slip. We bring our own boat, and it broke down (again) this year but Eric diagnosed the problem & helped us fix it so we could get back out onto the water - saving us hundreds of dollars & saving the vacation. I can't recommend the place enough. There are a few practicle things that I wanted to pass along. First, every cabin has a view of the water, even if it is not listed as being a "lakeside" cabin. So don't worry that you won't have a great view even if it's not directly on the water. If you have young children I recommend staying at one of the cabins that has a view of the playground rather than getting one of the lakeside cabins - these include cabin 7 (which has an awesome front porch - no stairs for toddlers to fall down) or cabin 10 (great patio area - also all on one level) or cabin 11 (a huge cabin perfect for an extended family). The waterside cabins have a view of the beach, though, so if your kids are more likely to hang out at the beach than the playground pick one of those (such as cabins 1,2,3,4,6,9, or 11). Cabins 8 & 12 are huge & since they are on the end caps of the resort, they are very private. Also, keep in mind that the fishing will be better in early spring, but the water will be too cold for the kids to swim in. Though we have had descent luck with fishing no matter what time of year we went - we just had to switch our technique. Great lake for Northern Pike, Walleye, Bass, Perch & Panfish. Read BDB1990's review - I couldn't agree more.

We have spent a week at Westridge ever since Erin and Eric purchased the property 12 years ago. Since then, they have been on a continuing program of upgrading and improving the cabins. Our adult children and grand kids spend the week with us and everyone has a great time. We do a little fishing, family meals, watch movies, play cards, play (kids) in the sand. My wife's sister and her extended family also also spend the week.

In the past we have stayed a variety of typical fishing type resorts. Westridge is by far our favorite. It is in better repair and cleaner than other resorts in this category. Some of the "cabins" are large enough to hold our extended family - and that really contributes to the fun. The grand-kids and women really enjoy the fun activities that Erin organizes. Even the guys enjoy some of the events, like the minnow races. As compared to other resorts, Westridge is a good value.

This resort was perfect for our family week long vacation. The owners Eric and Erin are awesome and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need and that your cabin is perfect for you. They are very helpful and provide a lot of activities for all ages in the cabins, lodge and outside! They are available for all your needs, we rented a pontoon and ran out of gas on the lake, they were out there with more gas within 10 minutes. Both Erin and Eric are very friendly and it's clear they care about their cabins and what they have to offer, they work very hard to maintain and improve their resort.

Our 15 person extended family ranges in age from 2 to 67, and we stay for a week at Westridge Shores every summer. We love that everyone is entertained, from the little ones who love the play equipment and bikes, to the tweens and teens who spend the mornings in the pottery studio and the afternoons in the water. Grandpa says the fishing is pretty good, too!

This resort has a mix of cabins, from the typical older fishing cabins you find all over Minnesota, to brand new, luxurious ones. Erin and Eric, the owners, work hard to continually update their facilities. All cabins are kept very clean and are well equipped. Every cabin has a gas grill, a front porch for relaxing, and a fire ring for campfires. A large dock area provides room for boats and fishing, and there is a very large shallow swimming area that is enclosed on two sides by the dock. At the end of the dock is a deeper swimming area and a swim raft / platform.

Part of the reason we chose this area was the proximity to Alexandria, because we figured we might need more entertainment options as the kids in the family get older. So far, there has been no need to leave, other than for groceries. The resort owners and their own children plan family-oriented activities almost every day: we've tie-dyed t-shirts, watched outdoor movies on a huge screen, had a family scavenger hunt, and even enjoyed a free pizza night, with minnow races for entertainment and ice cream sundaes for dessert!

Prices here are a little higher than fishing resorts we've stayed at before, but they were just that -- fishing resorts. Westridge Shores is a hybrid of a fishing resort with bait, equipment, and a fish cleaning house to keep your anglers happy, a pottery and jewelry studio on site for your artists, and enough family activities, play equipment and swimming opportunities to keep the kids entertained all week. Overall, a relaxing place to reconnect with family of all ages!
