“Friendly Staff and Beautiful Room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2009

Warm and friendly greetings when you arrive at the inn. A tour and some background is given when you are taken to your room. We stayed in room 9 on the third floor. This room was beautiful. The only downside was there was no view of the river except from your balcony. The area where the inn is located is a very quiet and beautiful area for just getting away. Located close to Stillwater and Hudson but far enough away for a nice quiet weekend.

My husband and I like to stay at historic inns and B&Bs, and we are pretty understanding about the idiosyncracies that come with older buildings (odd shaped rooms, sloping floors, small bathrooms, etc.). While we had an enjoyable stay and our room was satisfactory, this property is definitely in need of repair and it needs to be addressed quickly.

Immediately obvious is that the exterior wooden frames around some windows are pulling away from the walls, and the clapboard siding is rotted through in a number of areas. The common area carpets are getting shabby and need replacing. Everywhere you look, you can see issues that aren't simply a product of the property's age, but represent negligence on the upkeep. That is sad because, in the current economic climate, it might be harder for the innkeepers to manage than it would have been during better times.

Overall, the room was acceptable, the staff were pleasant enough (especially Joan), and the complimentary breakfast was very nice. But I hope that the owners find a way to bring this aging beauty back to condition.

The room was very clean and spacious. The breakfast was like a motel breakfast. Fruit good, everything else marginal.

We stayed at the Afton for my brother's wedding. We arrived hours early, but they were able to get us checked in right away. The front desk girl, Penny was great. All the the waitstaff was wonderful. I think our waitresses name was Carrie who waited on us for about 3 1/2 hours in the afternoon was probably the best, most friendly waitress we have EVER had. I was in the hotel/food service business for years. No complaints about this place. The Inn was clean & beautiful. It would be great for a romantic get away.

We selected the Afton House Inn for our Strategic Planning meeing and it was quite a huge success. The Staff at all levels were extremely pleasant and a joy to work with. The rooms were very comfortable and inviting. The meals were delicious and the boat ride was the icing on the cake. Afton House Inn made a tedious meeting very enjoyable due to the great hospitality we received, we will most assuredly turn this in to an annual event for your company!!
