Having very recently attended a basketball game in Brooklyn, I have an easy point of comparison for The Palace of Auburn Hills. As an out of towner, here are some thoughts:
+ The stadium seating design is terrific. So much better than at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the upper level seats felt so far away that I really did get a nosebleed climbing to my chair. The 200 (upper-level) seats here felt close to the action.
+ The facility is clean (surprisingly not the norm in all stadiums).
+ Staff were friendly and willing to help.
+ We were there for a basketball game on Star Wars Night. Sounds tacky, but everyone got into it and it ended up being a lot more fun than I had thought. Most stadiums go half-way in their attempts to create a theme night, but the Pistons did their job right.
- The primary reason for the 4 star rating, and not 5, is because the location is absolutely horrible for anyone visiting Detroit. Folks, Auburn Hills is not Detroit. It's not close to Detroit. It is a 40-60 minute drive from where the other stadiums (e.g., Ford Field, Comerica Park) are. This is brutal for people visiting the city, and wanting to check out an event here. Might explain the dirt cheap tickets though...
- FYI: Parking is $10 and there is plenty of space. If you plan on taking Uber here, be aware that Uber charges a $10 dropoff fee, so that sucks.
