“Gave away our room despite a guaranteed late arrival”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2007

We had a long standing reservation at this Hotel to attend a Michigan football game. We booked two rooms and guaranteed with credit cards. We arrived on consecutive dates. Upon the second groups arrival late in the evening, no room was available, it had been given away despite multiple conversations highlighting the late arrival. The front desk gave a very poor answer and rational for doing this.

The hotel took the liberty to rebook at another local property. Nonetheless, this wasn't a proper thing to do, especially with a "guaranteed late arrival"

I was informed by the second hotel that they had sent over 12 different customers that evening. So when your heading to Ann Arbor for a Michigan game, keep this experience in mind when you decide where to stay.

Stayed Here about 10 days in May/June 2007. Booked a 1-bedroom suite early because 2-bedrooms were sold out. A few days before my arrival called back to ask about 2-bedrooms and one had come available except for the first night of my stay.

Excellent!!!!

Check-in was fine and re-Check-in (to the 2-bedroom) was good as well. Enjoyed the rooms, enjoyed the breakfast, enjoyed the pool, enjoyed the basketball court, even did some laundry. Everything was great. Requests (mostly extra towels and linen changes) were honored. Definitely recommend it.

Only suggestion I would make is to allow guest to sleep in a little longer on weekends. We felt a little rushed having to get out the suite at about 11:30/Noon so housekeeping could clean. That may seem late but we were on vacation and adding up sleep-in late, get breakfast, get everyone cleaned up and ready to go, sometimes we pushed 11:30. But to their credit when we called to say we the suite was ready for service Housekeeping took care of us.

  • Disliked — Housekeeping had to clean the room so early.

A couple months ago I stayed at the Microtel Inn and Suites, and the manager suggested that we visit their sister hotel. When I had a reason to come back to Ann Arbor, I remembered the Hawthorn Suites Hotel. It wasn't quite what I expected -- it was more like a home then a hotel! The rooms are in some need of repair, but the friendly frond desk informed us that they were undergoing renovations. It was still nice for how much I paid, the view of the outside park was relaxing , and the morning breakfast was delicious. I would definitely stay there again, especially once the rooms are done being remodeled.

We stayed here to visit the University of Michigan. The hotel is not great, but okay for 1 night. The rooms are a little old and beat up, but it was nice to have a sitting area and kitchen. The breakfast in the morning is pretty good- above average for a free hotel breakfast. It looked like they had dinner in the evening during the week too. They have a convienent shuttle to the U of M.

My family (husband, baby and mother in law!) all stayed at this hotel recently while visiting Ann Arbor. After travelling from Australia we were glad to finally arrive and rest and hoped to have a bit of space for us all.
We were extremely impressed! Our two bedroom suite was the size of an apartment! Two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a decent sized kitchen. Free breakfast in the morning (free hot breakfast!) and excellent customer service from Eugene on the front desk.
You would need a car if staying there to get to the main downtown area of Ann Arbor but apart from that I would highly recommend it.
Great hotel!

Having recently joined my husband on his business trips, I've seen a few hotel rooms now. Never had a suite before (ie bedroom/s with living/dining/kitchen areas - brilliant idea!) It just gives you a bit more room to manoeuvre and some workspace away from the bedroom.

Hotel has a decent pool and gym and is well appointed. Also, breakfast and a light supper are included in the price - optional, of course. We had breakfast in but dined out mostly. Food caters for US/European/Japanese tastes at breakfast.

Rooms are serviced daily if you don't ask for them not to be - you have a choice. Towels changed if left on the floor of the bathroom. Sheets changed every other day (or daily if you prefer). Seems a bit of a luxury to me (I "only" change mine once a week at home!!)

Quiet location on the outskirts of Ann Arbor - nice and quiet with plenty of parking. Just a ten minute drive into very pleasant University of Michigan town. Enjoy!

We stayed at Hawthorn while my daughter attended the orientation at U of M. We had a 2 bedroom suites as we were traveling with grandma. This place is a 10 minute drive to the central campus but very close to North campus. The place was squeaky clean. This place was really comfortable. 3 TVs with cable, free internet, free breakfast & dinner. We had to eat out only for lunch.

AA has some lovely eating places. We loved TupTim, a Thai restaurant and Madras Masala, an Indian place.
