“Fresh, healthy, allergy - friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

I love Cafe Zola and I think it's among the best food options in Ann Arbor. Highly recommend the turkish tuna, any of the crepes, and the buyers and fries (with homemade ketchup). Lots of options if you're gluten or dairy free as well.

If the service was better here, Zola would rank among my favorite restaurants in town but servers often seem aloof and disinterested. Nonetheless, I go back often for the great food and the best tea menu in town.

“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014 via mobile

Lovely place for breakfast, with a vast menu. Good fast service. A bit crowded which made walking to table difficult and also effected the service. Food was good

“Great brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

Cafe Zola has to be one of the best options for breakfast, lunch or brunch in downtown Ann Arbor. Their breakfast drinks -- from the tea to coffee to adult beverages -- are awesome, and the food is great as well. There are lots of unique options to pick from, and they are all made with care and an attention to detail.

One word of caution: this place is always packed for brunch on weekends, so either be prepared to wait or get there early.

“Genuine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2014

This is one of the few places in Ann Arbor where the chefs genuinely care about making great food, as opposed to niche plays like Frita Batidos and Aventuras, and highly overrated "sophisticated" joints like The Chop House and Logan.

You must get a savory crêpe here for breakfast or brunch. It is incredibly well-made, and the bit on their website about the art of making crêpes is no lie: it's a true galette de sarrasin. Better than many crêperies in France.

“Pretentious, but lacking in the basics”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

My girlfriend and I went for what we hoped would be an enjoyable breakfast. She ordered Turkish Eggs which were not baked to completion; arriving runny and clear. She asked that it be cooked further. My Nadia's Sausage omelette, was just spicy sausage in a dry fold of eggs. Despite trying to eat slowly, my meal was completely consumed during the 25 minutes it took them to correct my girlfriend's uncooked eggs. During that entire time, the waitress returned only once, with a half-filled micro-carafe of coffee, that didn't even fill one of our coffee cups.
The bottom-line is that Cafe Zola strives to be a first-class bistro, yet only comes across as pretentious and incapable of providing the basics (timely food and friendly service) offered by humble breakfast diners.
