“Would stay here again...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2011

My husband and I spent one night at the Bell Tower Hotel recently during our visit to see our daughter. When I was a student there, I was always intrigued when walking by the hotel, and our stay did not disappoint. The location is terrific, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff is very attentive and friendly. We had a room with an updated bathroom which was very nice. The elevator was quite slow, so we just used the stairs to get to our room. We had drinks later that evening in the adjoining restaurant, Mercy. It was busy, but we had no problem with service. The continental breakfast in the morning at the restaurant was self-serve, and quite sufficient. The only complaint I have is the noise level coming from the other rooms. The walls seem to be quite thin, and I was actually able to hear a conversation from another room perfectly through a bathroom vent. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay there, and would stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Bell Tower. We strive to offer the very best service! We are looking into sound proofing the adjoining rooms better. We recently learned of the issue through guest feedback and are eager to fix the problem.

Thank you again for your feedback and look forward to your future stays!

We stayed at the Bell Tower for a visit to the University of Michigan. It was perfect for us, we loved it! It's a beautiful historic building in a terrific location, just around the corner from shops and restaurants in Ann Arbor and a very short walk to the visitors center where the tours depart from. I can't believe anyone said a negative thing about the furnishings and rooms - the lobby was so pretty and warmly decorated, and our room was beautifully furnished, very clean and comfortable, with everything we could want. We loved the old fashioned "real keys" to the rooms! Best of all though, the staff was very welcoming and so friendly. It was one of those places where I wasn't a bit shy of asking questions. They helped store our luggage for us on the day we visited UM, they also were very helpful with directions. We used the car service they recommended to get to and from the airport, and it was a perfect, low stress setup, with a great driver. When in Ann Arbor we used the UM blue shuttle buses to get around, with the help of the hotel staff, and that worked out perfectly as well. The free continental breakfast in the morning was a nice spread, also with very helpful attentive staff. It was kept very clean and well stocked. All in all, a wonderful trip, and we'll be back for sure.

I stayed at the Bell Tower on October 30. The location is ideal. The service was excellent, the staff being both very pleasant and very helpful. The look of the hotel is very nice, having an old world charm. The room itself, however, was much less pleasant. It needed some thorough updating. The furnishings are a bit shabby and there was no real dresser for our clothes. There was no AC, or it didn't work. Putting some real money into the hotel would make this a very nice place. That said, if you need a convenient place to stay for a day or two in Ann Arbor I would recommend this hotel because of its convenience and the service. But don't expect anything fancy for the money being paid.

Thank you for your review. I am glad to announce that we will be starting a bathroom renovation project after the last home football game this year. Half of the hotel already has new bathrooms and we are looking forward to offering new bathrooms on the other half.
I look forward to you sharing your next experience upon the completion of the next phase of our bathroom renovation project.

I have stayed at the Bell Tower about a half dozen times and the main reason being the location. Central to the University of Michigan and probably two or three dozen restaurants within walking distance. Clean rooms, they do need an update, and competent staff. Parking is a big problem in Ann Arbor, but the Bell Tower has it covered. Will stay again

We were married recently in Ann Arbor. We live in Northern Virginia and needed to choose a Hotel for ourselves, as well as our guests. The Bell Tower Hotel was initially a decision made because of it's location as well as what looked to be beautiful rooms and amenities. From the very beginning of our stay there, we were welcomed so warmly by the staff. It was initially a bit surprising, as they were all so young. David, one of the supervisors posses the maturity of someone twenty years his senior in the service industry. Bill and Ben, along with David went so far above the call, it's hard to put it all in a review. On the morning of our wedding day, I (the groom) asked David for some tips on where to find rose petals, chocolates...etc. for our room. He not only gave advice, but he Bill and Ben took care of picking it all up for me. It is this kind of service that not only keeps a customer coming back, but gets a most raving review. We will come back to the Bell Tower anytime we are back in Ann Arbor. Hopefully this review helps someone stuck between choices of Hotels. If you choose the Bell Tower, you are guaranteed to be satisfied. The rooms are beautiful, quaint, and extremely private. Thanks again for everything.

Room Tip: Lower levels might be better. Less time in slow elevator.

This hotel is a must for any trip to Ann Arbor. We arrived by train at midnight from Chicago. Travelworn and weary after an active few days in the Windy City, I couldn't wait to arrive at the Bell Tower and take a hot bath and go to bed. The hotel staff person was warm and friendly, even at the late hour. The hotel itself is old, yet very charming. I told my son it reminded me of the scene at the hotel in England after the first wedding in "Four Weddings and a Funeral". Our room was so comfortable with soft sheets and beautifully made beds. I did indeed take a bath in the very small, yet inviting tub! The next morning we had our complimentary breakfast in the adjoining restaurant, "Merci". The food was above the ordinary hotel continental fare, but what was extraordinary was the conversations surrounding us. At one table, the discussion was on film theory and at the other table a family from France sounded as though they were discussing quite important things! (Although, it could have been the weather!) We were given a complimentary New York Times to read, and the coffee was lovely. When I asked for a campus map, I was given one promptly. However, it turned out that it was practically not needed as the heart of campus is only steps away, not to mention great restaurants (Sava springs to mind) and shopping. Lovely, lovely hotel!

The Bell Tower is a quaint European style hotel in the heart of the UMich campus within walking distance most points of interest and several restaurants. The staff was very friendly. The room was nice with an updated bathroom. The valet parking was a great addition on a rainy evening. Overall I had a pleasant stay and would come again.

Room Tip: After reading other reviews, I would make sure to ask for a room with a renovated bath.
