I have done a lot of guided trips in South America. Most tour companies are happy just herding tourist through their local attractions to make a profit, but Condor Trekkers is a different kind of company. This non-profit offers great 2-4 day trekking to Maragua Crater, dinosaur footprints, and cave paintings, but in addition to making sure that the trekkers have a great experience they are also trying very hard to improve the lives of the people living in the communities that they trek through. The day my group arrived at the small village at the basin of Maragua crater the local school had just opened a new library that had ben funded in part by Condor Trekkers. It felt good to know that my money wasnt just lining the pockets of someone sitting in an office, but it was actively helping the local farmers and families, who's fields and land I was hiking through.
While trekking we had one of the best guides I have ever had on any trek in South America. He was friendly, an amazing cook, and answered every question that anyone tossed his way with enthusiasm. The scenery is breath taking, and I was lucky enough to be with a group of travelers that I hated parting ways with after the hike was over.
If you are in Sucre and thinking about doing a hike, I can't recommend CondorTrekkers enough. It has been the highlight of my trip in Bolivia so far. You get to see the beauty of the land and how people really live outside the big cities and you are playing a part in helping create a better future for the people you meet along the way.
