“Authenticity in the artificial city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for one night in June. It's in the old part of Dubai which is a nice relief from the artificial feel of the city centre. A ten minute walk to the metro & a few stops into the centre or a cheap taxi ride away. The hotel, like the rest of the city is a contrast: traditional architecture with contemporary art pieces. Great service with a warm welcome on arrival (mint lemonade) and a departure breakfast at 4am, which was really kind. Highly recommended if you like boutique hotels with local charm.

When i first saw XVA introcduced in the Wallpaper travel book, i know it is the one for my trip.

Different from most of luxurious and extravagant hotels in Dubai, XVA has its own unique and artistic characters yet also cosy and warm that more like a "home" than a hotel on this exotic land. Located primely at Bur Dubai right next to the Dubai Museum, it may not be easy to find when touch down, since it is located very inside the Bastakiya historic complex, but no worry, hotel staff can help arrange airport pick-up at reasonable price and you will be in good hands.

The two rooms we stayed are on the ground floor, one at the backyard, the other at the front. Bother are cosy, with high ceiling and nicely decorated. The only thing is rooms are not too spacious i have to say, since we were traveling for two weeks this time so carrying two large suitcases with us and we could barely open both on floor the same time. People at XVA are all friendly and welcoming like family. And Iwan, is the guy to look for if you need assistance and local tips.

One thoughful touch is that, XVA has a seperate bathroom free of charge for guests who have a night flight to catch like us, so you can take a shower and refresh a bit before flight after a long hot day without extending you room.

I was so happy and satisfied during our three nights short stay and will definitely come back if i got chance to re-visit this city.

Room Tip: Best ask for room at backyard, so you do not need to carry your luggage walk up and down the stairs...

XVA Art Hotel is such a gem! My friend and I stayed here for three nights and really loved the serenity of the hotel and the entire Bastakiya village. It is such a contrast from the Disneyland/Vegas type atmosphere of downtown, which we really appreciated. The hotel has such a unique quality given its boutique size and all the various artwork that dons the common spaces and private rooms. It also attracts people from all over to its cafe, making the courtyard (now air conditioned!) certainly the place to be. I should also mention that the complimentary breakfast is delicious, with fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, and a wonderful crepe or omelet. The quality of the food and service is better than any other complimentary breakfast I've had.

Iwan and his staff were exceptional. Iwan basically planned each day for us and gave us the best suggestions on everything to do and see Dubai. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the city, which made our time there even more enjoyable. He even arranged reservations for us ahead of our arrival based on our requests for certain tours. On our last day our flight was scheduled to leave very late--after midnight. Iwan suggested that we arrange our desert safari tour for that evening and even scheduled car service for us to the airport afterwards. Everything worked like clockwork and it was the perfect way to spend our last evening in Dubai. If I ever have the chance to return I will certainly stay here again.

I stayed for one night as a stopover on the way to UK and loved every bit of it thanks to Iwan and staff. They were so friendly and helpful and solicitous. If you want to get a feel for the old Dubai with great comfort but without the glitz and noise, this hotel is for you. Easy access to the creek, the Fort and Museum and the Textile souk, this hotel is really an oasis of calm, but with wifi! The food is fantastic. But the staff are what makes it extra special; they were wonderful.

3 months, I planned a weekend getaway for my fiance's birthday including a rooftop dinner with all our closest friends and this was the perfect place to do it. We are huge fans boutique hotels and anything that makes gives us a unique experience. Mr. Iwan, the General Manager of the hotel, was extremely helpful in planning our weekend and made sure that our stay was absolutely perfect. We live in Dubai and this is one of our favorite spots here even for a nice meal in their beautiful courtyard. The entire hotel has great energy running through it. Looking forward to our next stay.

Ahlan Wahhsalan SA24807,

I do remember that very first phone call you made to XVA. Your voice and your determination to make something special out of your boyfriend birthday was so genuine. I pledged to do my best to make it special. To see two people happy and even more people enjoying the heritage of Dubai in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere is my personal achievement.

This is one of the good memories I had while working with XVA. I left this hotel with heavy heart but now I could smile as I together with my team succeeded to make people happy. It is good for our karma :)

Keep the love alive!

This is a stunning little hotel. I loved it. It's not like anywhere I have stayed in Dubai before and nothing quite prepares you for how charmingly photogenic every corner of it is.

Rooms are quirky, electic and fun. I loved the fact there was no television or phone in the room. It has wifi and great air con so I was perfectly happy.

Eating breakfast in the covered outside dining area amongst the trees, art and birdsong was just lovely (fresh pancakes and date syrup were my favorite) and because there are no roads around you its tranquil. A real oasis of calm.

If you get a taxi tell them its near the Dubai museum as they probably won't have heard of it. Its a few minutes walk into the restored old village. Lovley location and felt like "real" Dubai with a cultural, western twist.

Very memorable place. I will go back!

The hotel is perfect for all those who do not want the high rise, faceless modern hotels of Dubai. Beautiful traditional hotel with lovely appointed room yet still with modern features like air con, wifi and modern showers etc. No TV which is heaven! Our room had it's own seating area outside which was very pleasant. Breakfast is superb and served in the courtyard. Close to the Museum and the creek for a trip across to the souks. Staff and management are brilliant and can't do enough for you.
The hotel has to be careful not to price itself out of the market though. It was more expensive than last time we visited and is in the same bracket as many of the more well known hotels in Dubai.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a deluxe room on the ground floor which have their own seating outside.

Good day Paullaw,

We are so pleased to see you coming back again to our hotel. Thanks for constant recommendation to your friends and family. I also noticed that this is your second review about our hotel. Your opinion still has not changed. :)

Your remark regarding our roomrates will be taken into consideration. We should definetely remain competitive in Dubai's ever moving hotel market.

Have a great day and hopefully you will be able to move to Abu Dhabi soon.

Warmest regards,

Iwan Yamin
