“Quaint little place in Bur Dubai, but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2014

Pros: We stayed here for one night on our way to Delhi and were delighted to find it is in the heart of Bur Dubai and in a really cool artsy area with tons of character. It reminded us of a Moroccan Riad with the courtyard (the cafe eating area is here) and every corner of the common area has some cool ecclectic art piece including cool lounging sofas outside most of the rooms. Each room has a different design and the rooms seem spacious enough and the beds/linen were clean and comfy.
Cons: I reserved the hotel transportation from the airport which is only 15 minutes from the airport and they charged us 150 AED...this trip in a normal metered taxi is less than 50 AED so we felt ripped off. This is my opinion is taking advantage of your guests and appears to be another way for the hotel to make money of unknowing guests. We had reservations to return to the hotel at a later date so cancelled our transportation request for that date...We also requested a room with a canopy a month prior and were told it wouldn't be a problem. Once we arrived they informed us that the canopy room was not available. We also wanted to extend our stay for a few days and asked if there was any availability. They informed us that they were fully booked and I told them that there was still a room available according to booking.com but the price difference was significant. The booking.com room price was approx $180 per night and the hotel's price was approximately $270. Not long after I told them this there were no more booking.com rates available. We literally went around the corner to the Orient Guest house and got a room for almost half the price. The Orient Guest house also has a courtyard and is definitely not as cool as the XVA, but the rooms are nice and clean, and they have a free shuttle to Jumeriah beach...next time we'll stay there instead.

Dear Vette10,

Thank you very much for your email and your admiration for our hotel and style. It is unfortunate that you found some issues during your stay with us.

AIRPORT TRANSFER
Our transfer charge is 150 AED and if you take a taxi would cost around 80 AED. This includes a reliable chauffeur that brings you door to door, waiting even with many hours delay and all the hassles that one might encounter in the foreign cities. In most cases guests know that this service will be more expensive than a normal taxi.

In Dubai, the airport taxi from the airport starts the meter at 25 AED (airport taxi surcharge) and to our hotel is about 75 to 80 AED. The taxi ride from hotel going to the airport is indeed around 50 AED. In our reconfirmation email we write the possibility taking a taxi/metro and send together with it a route description to the hotel. We do not mention the taxi fare because there are also different kinds of taxi: normal taxi and limo taxis; leave alone the traffic jam and unnecessary detour.

RATE DIFFERENCES
Once you booked a room you have agreed on certain rates, whether is is higher or lower that the rate that you have seen online. We recalled that you wanted to extend your stay and you saw our rate was lower on that day on booking.com. Yes, it is indeed possible and it is entirely our decision to drop the rates to fill up the rooms on the day itself. We did offer you the same price but you made no decision to take it, instead you booked a room in our lovely neighbour. We fully respected your decision and we are happy that you enjoyed the rest of your vacation there.

ROOM TYPES
I checked all the email correspondences. Unfortunately I could not find the conversation to promise you the canopy room. This room have been taken since November last years and you booked your rooms with us in January 21. During the check out, I mentioned this situation to you again while bidding farewell to your long awaited trip to India.

Still I regret these incidents happened while you are staying with us. The amazing colourful India and ever changing cosmopolitan Dubai would hopefully dominate your holiday.

Should you pass Dubai again, please come and see us for lunch. We will welcome you with our genuine smile.

Happy travelling.

Its a beautiful quiet calm oasis in dubai that makes you feel special, cared for and pleases the eyes wherever you look. Great for walking around and checking out souks in the old town. The service is great and the cafe in the central courtyard has lovely breakfasts. There are plenty of nice galleries and other healthy eateries in the neighbourhood.

Good afternoon Yogatinkerbell,

Thank you very much for your concise review.
The guests come and stay with us due to our location in pedestrian only heritage area. Our winning formula is that we exposed plenty of arts in any space we have. It is all about culture and arts.

We do hope that you come and stay with us againin the near future.

Warmest regards,

Iwan Yamin

My 10 year old son and I stayed at XVA Art Hotel for 4 nights this last week, and loved it. In a pedestrian zone, well-positioned, it has a lovely "tucked away" feeling. Very friendly and caring service - from the time we checked in until our last early breakfast. Iwan and his team were great in ensuring - and anticipating - that our needs were met. Really appreciated the comfortable bed, the great shower, fabulous lounge right outside our door, easy internet, the birds twittering as we woke in the morning, and the beautiful art work that decorates the walls and court yards. A real find!! Thank you so much, Iwan. Terima kasih banyak!

If you prefer culturally authentic boutique hotels with modern conveniences and reasonable pricing with excellent service, in Dubai, XVA Art Hotel should be on the top of your list. It is only 15min taxi ride from downtown, and about 20min from the airport, hence it was very convenient. If you have never been exposed to the Arabic culture, the hotel's location puts you in the middle of a heritage site, that gives you a glimpse into the past of Dubai with the authenticity of historic streets, buildings and mosque. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Dubai. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars, is due to limited touristic information details and brochures they presently have, however I'm sure they will remedy this shortly. By the way, the hotel manager, Iwan and the staff are is very pleasant and responsive on ensuring the guests' every need are attended to. I can't recommend this place enough!

didn't want to do the standard dubai jumeirah beach holiday… a little bit to samey and not very arabian. stumbled across this stunning little place and if for some reason i was back in dubai on work, i would probably opt to stay here again! it's in a pedestrian area, well away from the tourist trail and is run by Iwan - incredibly helpful, and not short of quirky and good recommendations of different places to visit and eat at.

such a peaceful enclave and so well put together

if you want a US spec hotel set up then this isn't for you, but go to the website and take a look - as soon as we saw it we knew it was what we wanted from dubai!

Room Tip: ask iwan for advice - he will give you the options and ensure you get what you need

Not everyone will appreciate the 'charms' of modern Dubai, but this hotel restaurant cum gallery should appeal to all, whether as a resident, diner or simply for a relaxing pit stop in the oldest quarter of the city. Charming, friendly service perfectly complemented the beautiful and well presented building.
Rooms are cool and stylishly decorated in neutral tones. Our bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in!
The food, attentively served in the lovely courtyard, was inventive and delicious.
The staff were just fantastic, period! The manager Iwan couldn't do enough to make our stay a success and our waiter Anais had a big smile worth getting up for each morning.
All in all a true gem in a city with a little too much fools gold, in our view at least!

Hello, I stayed at XVA on a business layover recently. My hotel room was uniquely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. Staff were quite nice and I really enjoyed being in the pedestrian only neighborhood. It is in a great location for checking out the art scene or take a walking tour of the Dubai Creek area. I highly recommend XVA to business travellers who want a more personal hotel experience or vacationers looking for something else in Dubai besides skyscrapers and malls.

Good afternoon B606,

It was great to have you as a guest in our hotel.

These days we are lucky to be able to welcome business guests too. Our lounge has been reserved often for meeting as well as our cafe. The free wifi is a plus as many hotels in Dubai still charge for internet. We can help the guest faxing or calling to anywhere as well.

So on your next lay over, do stay with us again and we shall locate you another nice room to try,

All the best,

Iwan Yamin
