Pros: We stayed here for one night on our way to Delhi and were delighted to find it is in the heart of Bur Dubai and in a really cool artsy area with tons of character. It reminded us of a Moroccan Riad with the courtyard (the cafe eating area is here) and every corner of the common area has some cool ecclectic art piece including cool lounging sofas outside most of the rooms. Each room has a different design and the rooms seem spacious enough and the beds/linen were clean and comfy.
Cons: I reserved the hotel transportation from the airport which is only 15 minutes from the airport and they charged us 150 AED...this trip in a normal metered taxi is less than 50 AED so we felt ripped off. This is my opinion is taking advantage of your guests and appears to be another way for the hotel to make money of unknowing guests. We had reservations to return to the hotel at a later date so cancelled our transportation request for that date...We also requested a room with a canopy a month prior and were told it wouldn't be a problem. Once we arrived they informed us that the canopy room was not available. We also wanted to extend our stay for a few days and asked if there was any availability. They informed us that they were fully booked and I told them that there was still a room available according to booking.com but the price difference was significant. The booking.com room price was approx $180 per night and the hotel's price was approximately $270. Not long after I told them this there were no more booking.com rates available. We literally went around the corner to the Orient Guest house and got a room for almost half the price. The Orient Guest house also has a courtyard and is definitely not as cool as the XVA, but the rooms are nice and clean, and they have a free shuttle to Jumeriah beach...next time we'll stay there instead.
