“Skyview Bar... bring it down a peg or two”
The management of Burj Al Arab sent me a feedback for me to fill out a few days after our visit to the Skyview Bar. I hadn't planned to write anything, but their email served as a reminder that I should. So I did. My comment was dated 12 December. I have not heard from them since, which, for me, is a clear message that the feedback soliciting process is just a formality, an "app" embedded in the management software suite. Which is hardly surprising.
I copy below my original comment:
There is no need to go through the feedback process. I have just one comment to make, that is, your afternoon tea is on a par with the classical afternoon tea establishments in London for its quality, except for one thing:
The service we received was aloof, indifferent and unprofessional. Our waitress just went through the motion with feigned smiles. I will give you one example to illustrate my point. Towards the end, seeing that my second serving of tea hadn't turned up, 20 minutes after I had placed the order, I asked her, with great courtesy, what had happened to my tea. She took a quick glance at me, uttered an indistinct "hmm" and whizzed off. About five minutes later, she returned with the tea. As she poured the tea into my cup, she said in a patronising, kindergarten-teacher-to-kindergarten-kid voice: "Mmm, here's your Pu-er tea! Enjoy."
Not a word of apology throughout the process! This might have been viewed as a slight "slight" in other places, but at Skyview Bar of Burj Al Arab? You know what I mean. I do not blame that waitress. I put it down to TRAINING and management policy!
