i did my scuba course with Sly in dubai during our recent vacation, we stayed at Jumeirah beach hotel and one of my friends living in Dubai hooked me up with Sly. The course was a bit over 2 days, i did the e-learning version, Sly sent me a link with a code, i logged in and watched some videos, did a few online tests. Probably i could have done it faster, but you know, it was a vacation after all, i completed most of it sunbathing next to one of the pools. i met Sly for the first pool dive after i was done with the e-learning bit, it was quiet intense as we met 8:30am, learned about bits and pieces of the gear, how to assemble a scuba and went straight to the shallow pool. Sly was great explaining with his cute accent how to breath underwater, what to expect first time and he assured me that he'll be always right next to me. it felt comforting that i'm in safe hands and even thou i was a bit nervous, i had no difficulties with me first pool dive. after a bit of swiming underwater we moved to one of the deeper pools, learned a bunch of skills and Sly took me to my first ocean (ok, it's the gulf, but still) dive. We swam around again a bit, just to get comfortable and headed back to pool to learn more skills. Next day we recaped on the skills at the deeper pool and went straight to sea, it was amazing diving right next to burj al arab, practise the same skills i learned in the pool, Sly showed me how to navigate with compas, what to do in case of emergency and similar handy stuff. I had a really good time and I'm hooked on scuba, thanks to Sly who made sure I enjoyed every second of the lessons, never rushed me, was very patient, detailed, ensured i'm always safe and he was very entertaining. man he has hundreds of funny stories about diving, about his adventures around the world, about all the silly stuff people do, but somehow it was always about safety. i feel proud to be a padi open water diver and cant wait to meet Sly in Brisbane for my advanced scuba course.
