I have stayed on five occasions at the JW Marquis from the first week of its "soft opening" in December.
It is a spectacular building in every respect, from the grand and opulent entrance, the stunning views from the Vault bar and high floor rooms. The visual impact of the towers from the poolside is impressive. The attention to detail on the landings, hallways and communal areas is remarkable.
The rooms are appointed in a plush, contemporary way and everything in them and the bathrooms has a luxury feel to it.
The staff, particularly Gian Luca, Kate and the rest of the team in the 37th floor executive lounge are consummate professionals and a credit to the hotel.
The Executive lounge is the best I have seen, the food, drink and service are unrivalled. Breakfast is worth a particular mention. No baked beans though!
The Gym is brilliant, modern clean and plentiful equipment.
The bars I have visited, Velocity and the Vault are both great, again with top staff. Can't help thinking some kind of happy hour would help though.
A few negatives
As the hotel has become busier it is noticeable the effective operation of the lifts has suffered, you can often spend 3/4 minutes waiting at busy periods, and then the lift will inexplicably stop on several floors. A hassle if your wanting to get to the ground floor from your room on the 64th.
The changing rooms located near the excellent gym, house sauna and steam rooms. However these appear to spend as much time out of service as they are open. Some of the rooms have beautiful balconies, you cannot however access them!! Owing to some quirky Dubai planning regulation apparently?
I wonder, when the second tower opens, if the pool facilities and space will be adequate at busy times?
I'm sure the issues are teething problems and for such a massive hotel, small potatoes.
